Sounds like GREAT fun
Nice write-up, Jason! Thanks for sharing that Hearing the speeds to be at a more reasonable 35mph, vs. the 70mph I'd heard make me consider doing it one day. Maybe I should 4 wheel it the first time.. Wonder how my Aztek would do
How about Forever Airhead Ralleye Team?
Those are average speeds, I must say, but you should in no way consider that it cant be done. Its really a chance to race no one but yourself in a reasonably controlled environment.
In the good spots I was doing as fast as I was able. I looked down once or twice and saw indicated 80. THe fast guys and the HP2's definitely see 100 mph on the long straights. Most of the time, if I was moving, I was doing as close to 50-60 as possible. I have some video that might give you a better clue.
There were some guys slower than me, and most were faster.
You should definitely do it.
You ALL should definitely do it, its not beyond anybody's capacity, here.
Hmmmmmm, a crazy idea...but we could take the A.R.T. one step further and make it an actual sponsored team
The Baja 1000 is one thing I've always wanted to do.....and hell there are vw bugs racing in that.
Thats sounds brilliant. I'm in!

Typical Youtbe compression has removed all the relevant details, of course. It was a 278M file as is... perhaps if I shrunk it down a few minutes... but honestly its been a 4 day epic battle to even get this up. Turns out the swizzle stick of a bandwidth pipe at my house cant even handle uploading it... so I can just go fuck myself until I get to work... unbelievably frustrating.
Awesome video Jason. How fast were you going on that trail?
Anders informs me that was Special Stage 6, Hunters Pond. It was an 8 mile stage that I did this year in 13:35 Last year I did it in 11:08)
SOmebody help me with the math here, but I think that since 60mph= 1 mile/minute, and since here, we are talking about 8 miles in roughly twice that many minutes, that its somewhere slightly north of 30mph. Average.. obviously in some places I get up quite a good speed, enough to scare myself. Other places, slow as dirt.
My times for the stages and miles looked like this: Miles, time, time last year)
1) Hunter's Pond Reverse:....8.25m......13:47s...(13:40)......35.9mph
2) Campbell Lake:...............14.3m......23:00s...(24:45)......37.3mph
3) Sextons Pond:................7.3m.......11:13s...(12:15)......39.mph
4) Sand Trap Reverse:.........8.2m.......10:35s...(12:36)......46.4mph
5) Campbell Lake Reverse:..14.15m......23:22s...(23:13)......36.3mph
6) Hunter's Pond:................8.0m.......13:35s...(11:08)......35.3mph
7) CJ's Loop:......................9.23m......17:50s...(17:35) (night stage) 31.0mph
total for this year: 1:53:52 (-30 sec penalty)
Last year: 1:55:12 no penalties.
Mileage totals were the same: about 69 race miles. Average: 37.3 mph overall. Winning time was around 60mph average.
technically I was still just a little faster overall, this year, and as I said, placed 13th out of 22.
Back in '09 when it was dry I posted an overall time of 1 hour 35, and still placed 36th out of 40something riders.

really cool footage. I especially like the last one going back and forth to talks, events, etc., and then back to the COW-CAM.
Woooohoooo - my t-shirt is out for delivery
Ha- thats awesome. Thanks. I have yet to order anything myself! :huh
Going to install the Siebenrock kit on Monday, it looks like. Kinda blew my wad on that
I got two yesterday for my bags.
Mine was on the porch when I came home tonight.
Really glad you guys like the videos.. Was fun to make, in spite of the technical difficulties. I'll hopefully get more interesting footage next race.
Also really glad you like the swag. Cant wait to pick some up, myself.
Looks like Rally West Virginia is the next rallymoto I can make, in August. I might sortof consider Tennessee, I got some folks trying to talk me into a tarmac rally. Could be kinda fun. Wonder if there's any local motocross stuff I can waddle into?
I've got one request on the videos, next time how about stopping every now and then to clean off the lens????
I just caught up with this thread, great video!
What's the scoop rocky?
