Spark Plug Question??

    NGK CR 8 EK

    This is the plug in the manual but it does not look like ours.

    We have the twin tip jobby which is different, so we are approaching 40000 on these plugs.

    Replace them when we do the valve check ?,

    Is there an optimal or better plug to run ?, ours look fancy but I don't have the number so I can't quote it here.

    Again wonna get it into our package for Peru so got one shot and getting good stuff

    So more research I found our spare plug which is a NGK CR8EK, does anyone know if there are different plugs on that number, i.e. twin tip single tip etc? or is that part number just it?

    If so that makes life easy.

    NGK CR8EK is a twin ground electrode plug; CR8E is a single overhead ground electrode. Or at least they should be according to the catalogues.

    They're both a pretty basic plug and you can (at least in theory) get better performance from a fine wire Iridium plug. There are so many influencing factors though, it's very difficult to say if you'll see a benefit or not.

    A recommended Ir plug is the CR8EIX. For me they work well.

    Assuming then it is the right fit for the Super Enduro like any LC8.

    Anything for a better burn is good in my books.

    950: +1 on the CR8EK being the stock and CR8EIX being the iridium equivalent.

    The 990 uses a different plug though, if I remember correctly.

    I found the Ir plugs maintained a snappier throttle for a longer time.
    The standard electrode ones seem to "wear out" sooner and the throttle response becomes mild.
    I had the IR ones in for 2 years and replaced them with the standard ones. The standard ones didn't seem as peppy right from the start.

    I will be throwing a new set of IRs in the SE this winter.

    I haven't noticed any performance difference with the iridium. Guess they last longer but I usually change 'em after 20k miles or so. There is 1 NGK iridium which has a fixed/permanent end/terminal cap. It does NOT unscrew. So be sure you get the right plug for your spark plug/coil end. I've owned 950s and a 990 and don't remember on which bike I had the problem or the plug #.

    Yall are speaking too generally for me. The 990 has different plugs 09 and earlier, and 2010 and later... when they changed the heads.

    We got the CR8EIX iridium on the way, the cost is cheap enough and for any amount of better bang / longevity it is worth it, the less time ya haf ta take those buggas out the better.

    The iridium that fits is the NGK DCPR8EIX with removable the plug side. I bring this up just for completion.
