Just a heads up / get a ride in while you still can....The speed limit on some popular victorian riding roads is about to be reduced - from 100 to 80. Mentioned in our local paper (sorry...no link available...small town syndrome)

    Roads affected include:

    Licola road:cry
Bonang highway entire fun section:cry:cry that's right, 108 km of twisties where they can hide speed cameras.
Sections of the alpine way / omeo hwy (already heavilly policed )

Anyone want to buy a guzzi v11...looks like it's back to the postie bike for me.

It's already happened on all the roads nearer to Melbourne. I sold my road bike because of this. They have completely ruined it. So now I enjoy the 100kmh offroad instead. Like to see them put a camera out there lol. I was seriously considering a battery powered 9" angle grinder to demonstrate my appreciations for the 80kmh signs

Most of the Adelaide Hills is 80km/h it happened a couple of years ago.
I do see a lot of sports bikes go by me with their number plates taped up.
I guess even a speed camera can't get those.
It would be interesting to see how many snaps a year are taken with unreadable plates?

We have cameras on causeways that flood badly to catch miners heading back home when roads are closed.
They're too high to get to unless you cut them down, apparently take a 360 deg. view...

They have decided to leave the Ensay-Goatfarm (Bruthen) as it is due to pressure from the many use's of that road:clap.

I don't see what the problem is,if you want to go fast go racing. Phillip Island,Broadford, there are plenty of options.

This isn't about going fast or racing, it's about enjoying the scenery / the road rather than having to watch the speedo. If I wanted to race I wouldn't be riding a guzzi!

YO! I do track days at every track/ opportunity. Just got back from Dargo Hotham Jingellic Dorrigo Mitta Omeo, home. I'd be way more impressed with money being spent to rebuild the roads. To put it frankly, they are well fucked!:puke1

Yeah some of our main roads may be maintained but the boys in blue are on everyone of them here :cry that may be why crime is outa control in Brisbane now -all the police are checking for speed, breath test and number plate positioning

Don't you just feel safer already?

So it's either improve the roads or reduce the speed limit.

Govt wankers. I hope Baillieu gets an arse kicking next election.

I'm surprised this wasn't pushed through before the Moto GP, oh well just in time for WSBK's.

The sad part is that these aren't the only roads around Vic that have had their speed limits lowered from 100 kph to 80 kph and in some cases 60 kph.

There are quite a few roads that have long sections of 80 kph (Blackwood, Daylesford, Whittlesea, GOR just to name a few) with stretches of 20, 30 or more kms quite common.

Personally I think it is a stealthy way of lowering the Vic default speed limit from 100 kph to 80 kph in the name of lowering the road toll, if no one is driving fast then they won't get killed, give it 10 years at this rate and the only 100 kph roads left will be the highways out of the state.

    :csm

    Blah, blah, blah.

When did the 100km/hr speed limit become racing?

Read: "I'm incapable of safely maintaining a reasonable pace, so the rest of you have to be draged down to my level of incompetency"

I think Australia will quickly become the slowest moving first world country by roads very quickly. The guy on the guzzi who wants to sell it because of this...
mate spare a thought for blokes like us who have super sports bikes. my zx6 will do 100kmph in first gear, if one was inclined. It is painful to ride a bike like that at 60 and 80 kmph. they're begging to be ridden well above 100 kmph just to feel normal.

And the guy who made the silly comment on going to PI and broadford; this is not about racing my friend. this is about 100 and 110 kmph sections being killed to laughable speeds. Only folks that are happy with a speed reduction from 100 kmph are the ones who're redlining their posties to get to 100!

    +1 (Merely incompetence, btw...)
Lowest common denominator of skill required. The official line on Advanced Driver Training is that the authorities don't like it, as it leads to "over-confidence"....
