I was keen to revisit my 2009 exploits of riding through the Gawler Ranges to the Dry Lake Racing on Lake Gairdner, South Australia.

This time with a more favourable results than 2 broken legs out of 3 riders.

    Speed Week 2009

An older body & 2 prolapsed discs have necessitated a lighter bike than my legendary mighty TDM :cry

Calling DR Brewer to theatre please. :D

The weather was looking good as we trailered 3 adventurers from Adelaide to Whyalla some 5 hours black top away and to the edge of some would say, the civilised world.

It felt good to be in touch with the dirt world again. :wings

Our aim was to reach Wudinna on the inland west of South Australia, enter the Gawler Ranges National Park from the south & camp for the night :deal ....................... however !

Although the roads were straight, the very loose gravel had us weaving treacherously from side to side struggling to stay between the trees & the inevitable consequences:p3rry

A very welcome break to rest for tensing arms.

We were traveling well, however it must have been the lack of Caffé Latte stops that caused our BMW compatriot to spit the dummy with fuel transfer issues.

However it wasn't long before an energy drink bottle got the beemer revitalised again :pynd and we were on our way only to be greeted with this :huh

Pity we missed the fence christening party :cry :pope :sweeti :killen :lol3

Light was fading fast as we slipped passed Wudinna collecting refreshments :evil and luckily finding an open gate to set up camp off the road some 30kms short of the park.

........ and a sound nights sleep :snore under a thousand boobs ..................... err! ................. I meant stars. :D

Next morning all refreshed with a smile on our faces we continued into the ranges under a clear blue sky.

Very dry though .................... but luckily the roos knew where to find water :lol3

We rode every track in the park ...... some gnarly ... some delightful

Checking out the rear ends ................ the bikes that is :D

A well earned panoramic break as the temperature climbed

Then it was high tailing it to the cold beer at the Lake canteen.

A much cleaner bike at this interesction than last time

The glare of the salt was blinding

but there is always beauty to be seen in the eye of the beholder :evil

.................. and I didn't mean this lot either :rofl

We settled in for the arvo's viewing pleasure

Initially of a driver's sighting run in their support vehicles, but as the wind was high delays began to creep into proceedings

Before hitching a ride to the pits some 5kms up the lake

A quick inspection track side was not looking good

But we were assured by a local that the salt is 4 ft thick under the racing line.

The view of the start line from the canteen

    .......... and from the pits

Distance is deceiving when you get on the lake

Some had the right idea, this contraption handled the strong winds with ease

Charlie hard at work with final preperations

I have never seen so many old codjers with years of "experience" ie injuries limping around.

Made me feel young again :D

    Then I saw this :huh

A delicious roast beef dinner was calling

Most guys were still on the lake, but the service at the canteen was excellent even when it was crowded

    Saying our farewells

Back to camp ready for an early start home Tuesday

    "you dirty bastard" :rofl

Although there was a bit of fun had by all that night.

Couldn't understand why my head light wasn't shining on the ground :cry .............. obviously broken :rofl

If looks could kill ............... "I am taking this photo and No I'm not sticking the camera there actually" :D

    The final farewell

A quick look see at Mt Ive Station complex

    Sinking the sub

and a quick 130km dash back to civilization

and thanks for arriving safe was given :bow

Don't know what to bring on one of your future rides now...the 950 or the 525
Might have to look for something around the 700 cc mark as well...:D
    Cheers Mate...catch up soon.
