is this the problem you have?.

Because i had this as well, its caused by plastic and plastic rubbing together inside the speedo due to vibrations from the bike and that white plastic chafing is causing contact problems.
Sollution: open the speedo clean everything and put back together, done.

But why don't you go to a dealer, you have a 2011 model so must still have warranty?

I've checked the connectors before, I'll check again though a second time...

Mine is the R so without abs and the speedo magnet is screwed at the bottom of the fork. From here I assume it picks up on the bolts on the wheel. The thing that strikes me odd is how by turning it works, then doesn't.

Keyswitch barrel, battery connections and starter relay are all mint. I mean, everything on the bike, on the dash and elsewhere works. Just the stupid speedo that only seems to work when it wants!

Spark01 no mine is not like in your photo, all the numbers, gauges work, temp, clock odo etc.
But I think you are right to just bring it to the dealer, I have no other options, and yes its still under warranty still by a bit. I just never like bringing it to the dealer.

I guess next week i'll try to get her over there...so they can figure it all out :D

Just got the bike back from its 3rd tuneup and the speedo cable was bad.

How many times have I heard that the cables go bad...sheesh!

I guess better that goes than anything else in the computer.

    The bike is preeemo now!

    :rofl

I have the same issue with my bike now. The speedo just reads 0 and odometer doesn't increment. Do you happen to have the part number for the speedo cable for the Adventure R? I traced the wire up from the sensor and it has a kink/bend near the steering head where the wire is wrapped from the factory with a white protective sleeve. When I turn my bars left and right, that wire bends each time and I suspect maybe it cracked internally. I want to try replacing the wire/cable first.

    Thanks

Had the same problem on my 07, went months chasing and testing wires. Ended up being the ABS switch on the dash was broke. Another inmate pointed it out. $35 dollars later, it was fixed. Of you have tried everything else, switch it out and see where it takes you.

My bike doesn't have ABS, it's a 990 R. I thinking it's the cable assembly itself. Does any know the exact part number I need to order? The issue started after I wired in Rigid LED fog lights and installed a Scotts triple clamp and damper. I was careful not to pinch or kink any wires so I don't know if it's just coincidence or what.

Searched the KTM parts diagrams and found the part number for the sensor/cable assembly for anyone else that cares:

    Speedometer Sensor 10 - 62514068200

I'm going to try replacing this part first and hopefully that solves the issue.

Tore the bike back apart today and found the problem. The thin red wire in the speedometer cable had cracked/severed near the lower triple clamp where the cable flexes a lot with the factory routing. I resoldered the wire, wrapped and rerouted the cable. Now my speedo and odo work perfectly again. Total cost to fix - $0 :1drink

Hey all, I just bought a spare set of wheels with tires etc, They came a bike with ABS, my 2013 Baja has no ABS. Well I put the wheels on did not pay attention to the ABS plate, I damaged the speed sensor on my non abs bike, I replaced it and removed the abs plate. Still speedometer reads zero! Is there something different on one than the other? Is there different bolts or something that the other wheel has that the original has different? They look the same to me.

Start at the dealer if its a 2013 it should be under warranty.

I had the same issue on my 07 and it was the speedo sensor.

Disconnect the battery for 5-10 minutes and try again. I read somewhere this worked for a similar thing.
