Bingo! Award yourself a Paris Bun.

So do you know the story of the house? I don't think I ever saw it occupied in my time? It must have been a hell of a place in the depths of winter.

I'm afraid i don't deserve the full bun Frey. I be up there a lot of times doing the mountain biking thang. medal for getting there cos not the easiest of 'roads' up that way, but loads of sheep so well worth a scoot.
    .
Myself and wife were on bicycles up there last summer and it being commonage there were loads a cows and calves roaming about at the foot of Breesy. I was ahead of her and suddenly she flies past me at full tilt screaming mammmmmmmmmmmmmieeeee..........! (never heard her say that afore) I was laughing cos it was like a cartoon piece, till i looked back to spot a big bull running up the hill towards us bellowing like a friggin elefant. it was funny though to see her flying past me like i wasn't there and her screamin' !
    .
    .
the house was Myles's farmhouse and its been vacant a long whiles. It was the only house out there but they were great friends of the Quinns, it's a cottage on the left as you head out from the Knader with the madfuckdog called 'sky', she'll ate you and your bike any day or night. The son would be in his late fifties I think and he lives in the wee north and i think he's top man in the edumacation board up there, a real nice guy too he is. i'll find out more !

well, the summer is finally over here hahahaha............what f'in summer i hear the disgruntled among you say and i can't argue that point.
    .
it gets cold here and me hands go numb in short time so if i has to break off suddenly i'm sure you'll understand....!
    .
    .
in my wisdom i had inmehead to do a bit of a scoot in, of all months, february/march. the head was buzzing with thoughts of gettin' away from about the place to foreign lands and i never even thought of when would be best, act in haste repent at leisure and all that priestly chat as they say at the pulpit. like when you be thinkin' impure thoughts and deeds and no sooner than when the deed be's done the feckin' repenting starts.............
    .
    .
so, flights booked, wallet stuffed with fivers, goodbyes said, toothbrush packed.............off i goes.
    .
as usual i headed towards the land of Italia. i'm throwing in a photo now cos youse has to be bored rigid already and that just won't do.............!!
    .
    .
    .
    .
so I lands me in northern Italy, Milano to be precise, i know the roads fairly well by now and this time i hired a car to get me to where me horsie was stabled. usually it's a bus/train/ferry/taxi ride to get there but for much same cost i hired a cinquecento kinda car and headed north to lago di como.
    .
i have to tell you my heart skips a beat when I get there, it almost aches at the beauty like when you see a beautiful woman and she smiles, it just f'in hurts and it catches your breath, you know my drift.
    .
    so onto the ferry.........
    .
    .
    .
the ferry slips across the mirror like lake on a cold dry day and i'm buzzing, this place gives me chills................!!
    .
    .
the little village looms in the distance and seems eerily quiet...
    .
    .
    .
    .
i make my way to the garage where my beast is bucking to get out and about................
    .
and here she is, all shiny and ready to go
    .
    .
    .
well truth to tell, she wasn't ready to go at all, the bitch had a dead battery, no bother says i to myself, ill recharge it using the battery from the wee fiat. well after half an hour trying to get the hood/bonnet open on the car i hooked her all up, she starts after a while of charging, but muggerfuggers and fiddlesticks she keeps conking out...............the battery if fucked my mechanic mind tells me.
not to be outfoxed at this early stage i ring the local mechanic in the village next over, and courtesy of google i find their number, ring ring............pronto the voice on the other side................fuck i reply................how do i explain this one in pigin Italian............well believe it or not i got the point across and sure enough they had a battery the right size and all.............!!! mighty
    .
    .
so i scoot off to get said battery, arrive and find it's still in a box, needs the liquid to be poured, mixed, pre charged etc etc............long story short after an hour i have the battery in me mitts and head back.................fix it in connect and she fires first time..................woohoooo..........!!!
    .
    .
of course the day is nearly shot by now and i have been up since midnight and there's a sofa in the garage so me and ma horsie spent our first night together on the sofa and slept dreamin of ridin' and the happiness it brings.

Ahhhhh.... another romantic ride report from sexy Italy. I wish I was there.... not with you... just there.. Great start, awaiting more!. Funny note aside regarding the dead battery of the otherwise bulletproof Zook... chatted with a man the other day as he pulled on his riding jacket about to mount his Suzuki in the parking lot of a pub... why are we always near pubs? anyway he bemoaned the fact that as a result of a dead batter his Ducati MS wouldn't start otherwise he would be out on that.. i suggested the adding of a $15 battery tender to his $20k machine could solve that... :) Carry on. no criticism intended!

thank you Jim, indeed i did have a tender thing going on (you do mean someting soft, cuddly and shapely - don't you) how did you guess ?
    .
    .
i had a, what we here in the past call a, 'trickle charger' and tender it ain't, it's a wiry little bollix with lights that go yellow when you stick one end up da horsies ass and the udder into the wall and it usually keeps the batteries charged asitwere. But truth be told the fu**kin' thing was just not doing it for me. I know you are supposed to keep her lit but being as it coulld be up to a year before i'd see me harse i thought no, her arse'd be inflames or worser...
    .
so neither tender nor trickler was no f**in good this time.....
    .
so after a long and somewhat chilly night, me an the horsie tugging at the wee rug we shared, light eventually appeared under the garage door and up we gets, hungry and cranky the pair of us !
    .
    .
before moving on i enclose a photo of the wee yoke i driv up from Milano, pure comfort and a swift turn of speed even in the lower gears..........!!
    .

ok, so it were time to get the flock outta here, but the hunger was gnawing at me ribs by now and witchy poo needed a drink of the petroleum shtuff cos the dribble left inside a her was starting to smell like f*in gasoline, it being there so long.
    .
into the wee village below we goes, not a soul is stirring, not even a tumbleweed................
    .
but you get my drift as to how pretty the place be's even in the cold wintery/springy damp morning. in the background the moundy bit is the toon of Bellagio, famous for putting up with yanks and brits with more f**'in money than sense, but even Bellagio was in a hazy sleepy fug this cowld morning.
    .
    .
    .
eventually we gets foddered.........me with cafe after cafe after cafe interwoven with brioches, croissants and nips o sumthing bit stronger.......and herself with a few litres of good old gasoooooooolene...................much better now............we can put together a plan of action............wooohoooo at last
    .
as you can see from below the cafe/coffee here comes in tiny cups, no fault but i likes a good liquidy kinda breakfast but after five of these i was like a rabbit in the headlights going six fuc'in directions at the one time while calculating mileages, converting them to kilometerese and subtracting hours while adding minutes, all the while trying to chat up the pretty waitress who was sure i was one o them bucks out on a day release scheme............
    .
    .
    .
    .
    onwards.................onwards indeed

as i said outside was cool, cold even, snow atop the mountains all around but i was well warm with a vat of coffee swilling aboutmeinsides....

ok enough already, as you guys say..........
    .
    .
it was time to get moving. i was to head south, no good going north cos the snow was all over the place and all passes were blocked and would remain so for at least a month.
    .
    hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
    .
i had it in me head to go to where my babies were born and so headed off with that destination in mind. the roads were icy as f**k all along the lake and on and on so i had to be keeping me head about me..
    .
truth is the ride south was as boring as hell as it was all autostrada, well pretty much anyways.
    .
after what seemed like an iceage i eventually landed in the big city where my kids were born. it were still a crappy day and i got lost trying to find my place to stay. i met this doll and asked her for directions but she seemed a little preoccupied...

Hey Goat, gotta agree with that !
    .
So i found meself in a city with these kinda sights, I stood there for a half hour watching and eventually me patience was rewarded when out of these preoccupations flowed mighty streams of water. i did not get a photo as there was such jostling all aboot for a look, mostly chinese tourists and they were going off da head with excitement. So this is culture..............!! hmmmmm......................!!
    .
    .
    .
there was nothing flowing from this buck though, he being a pope of olden times n'all.
    .
    .
as you most assuredly musta guessed the city i was in was the great metropolis of Bologna, home of the boloney sausages ! (local baseball team)
    .
    .
i know, you're thinking (that is, those of you who do think), it is also home of the oldest university in da world and other such delights...........!!
    .
    .
the city is a walled city and it's a hoor to navigate into. i had made agreement to stay in a wee hotel right slap bang in the middle of the old city, just off the piazza maggiore, where you are not allowed to drive, apparently ! so i had me a bit of a problem already.
    .
i stopped at one of the old gates to the city to ask for directions............
    .
    .
    .
    .
and a boyo comes over all done up in ipod wires n stuff, offs the lot and proceeds basically to tell me not to be startin' from here (we, here in the land of da weee people usually come up with that f**in solution but i surely thought in a city which housed the oldest f**in university in da world the locals would have some sense of direction !)
    .
    .
So i was left o me own devices and being as my gps had maps from only pre christian times - special deal from garmin (long story) - i had to bisect the city in a military like way, eventually finding my way towards the piazza maggiore....
    .
    .
i do apologise here as i want to put in again a picture i already have due to it being one of my favourites and to show another feature of this great city. There are miles and miles of covered walkways in this place all arched like porticos going this way and that to keep the Bolognese dry and cool from the heat. Today was not a problem re. the heat...
the colours of the buildings are so perfectly in tune with the shutters...................arty farty kinda diatribe here....blaaaaah
    .
    .
    .
    .
so, after what felt like a week, i found meself in the big square and no other cars, bikes etc etc except cop vehicles and even some military ones due to the rising fear of 'terrorist activities' n'such.
    .
    .
    .
    .
I'm still not sure where the hotel is supposed to be, so i unboard the horsie and looks around me...............loads a peoples wanderin' about and all seems quiet enough. i take a few snaps to give you the jist of the place...
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
i think this pair were doing it for the camera..................! but i thought - when in rome................
    .
    .
    .
    .
    .
over the ways a crew were banging out irish music, huh, what, huh...................? yeah and giving it plenty of welly too, but as i got closer i could hear them speaking a kinda romany type twang/dialecty speak...........
    .
    .
    .
    .
if i were king i'd make them honourable paddies purely on their musical abilities. i jigged on about beside them till they told me to fuck on off outta there (in their own language of course). me dancing isn't always appreciated, ya know.
    .
    .
so, where the fu*k is me hotel, i've been round this piazza like a numpty for hours now and finally i find it, the streets are this wide..........
    .
    .
    .
so i suppose it's no wonder i got meself lost.
    .
i handle the receptionist, put the horsie inda stable and get meself a room, grand, a shower..........mighty good clean aqua naturale and i feel much better.
    .
have to admit it was shite weather here in this luvly city and the wind was howling down the skinny streets with rain following..............a pure balls...feck

    grazie..........
    .
so, i mooch around the room awhiles, check out the shower and the telly and the minibar, no bother to get that replenished i'm thinkin'.
    .
i sat on the edge of the bed having opened the shutters on the fuck of a day blowing about outside and thanked me lucky stars that at least i was on the inside of the walls....
    .
but as is usually the case with me, within 15 to 20 seconds having passed i was bored rigid, right says i to myself, i'll head out and see whats cooking...
    .
stiffly i raised meself and all balonging to me up from the firm bed, stretched and put one foot in front of the udder.............me heart wasn't in it but i soldiered back down to the reception area, winked at the lassie behind the counter and headed out into the windyrainyness, thought i heard the young lady shout something as the door closed behind me, but it were probably just "wishful thinkin'.."
    .
i brung mecamera soas to give youse a bit of an idea of da place insofarasyoumighnt have been hereabouts youreslves, and got to a bit o'snapping..
    .
i was allathinkin' what a great idea these herearchesnporticos would be at home, sure you'd be outside and yet not outside.............
    .
    .

    .
this wee buck headin' my way was giving out fuck about me taking a picture offa him, i tried to explain it was for you guys and blew him a kiss...he went off home happy out..........
    .
    .
i was hoping to do some touristicy things being as i was here in da big smoke, like go to the place where they usedta cut up bucks and do thesurgery in da university n'all but i just said fuckit to meself and went for a bit to eat instead.....
    .
    .
    .
had me some arancini (?) and read da corriere della sera (?), well i looked at the pictures anyways..................and at the girlies passing by, as youdo.
    .
right back out into the coldnblustery day...
    .
    .
this above be a bit of the big mudder fugger churchy building i was staying near..........loadsamarble n shteps up and down...

    .
bored rigid i was by now hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
    .
back to me room, another wink at the wee girlie (she must be thinkin' i have a twitch by now) and up to ma room. got out me colouring book and crayons and passed an hour colouring in.....................told ya i was aurtistic, didn't i
    .
thought to meself i'll plan to get nice bitodinner tonite seein' as i was on me holidays and got me hole off the bed one more time having noticed it were dark now outside.
    .
wandered aboot looking in winda's at the peoples ating their fill, busy places, quiet places and eventually i settled on one....
    .
in i goes, howaya doin', buona sera n'all, per due, no, nobby nomates mister man, per uno............put me in the fu*kin' corner outta sight of the normallykinda peoples................bottle o red will settle me

    .
    .
so i wolfed down this kinda thing even though the meat were a bit overdone..................
    .
    .
forgot to take a pic of the dessert, it disappeared that fast...........finished the bottle and it was time to go for a bit of a walk.....

hmmmm Frey.............that might account for the pulsating kinda feeling i was gettin' from me belly as i gulped down the vino rosso, kinda bum ditty bum ditty bum bum bum and i had this massive urge to let out a big long looooooooooooooooooo, but i usually have that urge so that wouldn't really count.
    .
i could dilly dally no more and paid the man, cos you gotta pay the man. ever so slightly inebriated after one or three limoncello's, a grappa or two and the fine bottiglia of red coursing through me, outside felt suddenly mild and balmy wet so i heads off for a bitofa walk.
    .
now before i forget, the picture above of the popey buck is none udder than popey gregory the xiii, he was da big cheese here and in roma back in 1580 and the palazzo he sits upon is known as the palazzo d'Accursio which was eeeerected in the 1300's. now i know that you know this blah blah shit so i'll not dwell on it but back in gregory's time there was a big push to move the popes house from roma to bologna due to the power of the medici's and their crew, itwere a big thing then but it didn't quite work out...
    .
so i'm stuffed and as usual thinking of your good selves i go and get a few more pics of the place...
    .
this be the palazzo del podesta...................and blah blah blah n'all.

believe it or not they was built in 1109 ding ding by two families who each thought they had the biggest willy the Asinelli's and the Garisenda's and the Asinelli's won cos theirs is 70m high and little dick Garisenda's is only 48m...................silly fucks.

cool signs Bob, 'township'.............? watsdatmean, is it like a town or a village or is it more sinister....................., i like the second one better i think and just for the gang, how infucksname does it derive that name, any idle historical inaccuracies are welcome !

so, here was i, belly aplenty, looking for a bit of mischief....went into a few "barsport"'s as they are called here, where you get beer, football on tv and lots of card games n'shouting and generally a bit of crack (craic).............but each one was more deserted than the last wtf...................the weather was keeping the locals from their local...................by now i was on a bit of a downer, i had at least 20 euro in me fist and no way of offloading it in the pursuit of rascality and tomfoolery.................feck
    .
    .
with me head laid low i made my way through the wet n damp streets, my sadness following like a shadow. even the girls in the fountain didn't want to play, it was time for bed and a few deckets o' the rosary...............
    .
as i finished up me repetitive mutterings i got up off the floor and rolled thankfully into the lonely bed, it'd just be me and me dreams tonite................
    .
    .
after a night of confused snippets n fractions of girls n beer n prayers n all that kinda shtuff that usually follows too much food n alcohol n thinkin' i awoke to more f'in rain......................ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
    .
twere early and i headed downstairs for a nosey to see if the receptionist was about for a bit of a wink...........
    .
not a soul was to be seen and i ventured into the dining room to pass the time when i came upon this delightful apparition....

me, being the shy type, stood back, looked left, looked right and finally after a bit of a debate looked left again and proceeded that direction. how many cereals n yogurts n cakes n croissants did they expect me to eat, that i did not know but i went in with gusto (couldn't figure why they had forgot to put out a chair for me to sit on ) and after what seemed like only 5 minutes a waiter appeared, looking aghast and horrified. what wasn't in me belly was on me face or the floor....by this stage i really needed a drink so i asked the buck for some coffee as he recoiled from my table....as he was hurrying away i shouted after him that i'd need some juice too but i'm not sure he took it all in..............
    .
    .
thus satiated, i waddled back to me room and had to go to the wee boys room, the cow was still looing inside a me and the breakfast was causing all kinds a rows as it settled wherever it could so you you may perceive things was a bit of a mess.........
    .
    .
as the waiter buck had not reappeared i had to order a pot o coffee and a pint of juice from room service, of course this arrived while i was otherwise indisposed..........f**k.........the bollix at the door kept f'in knocking so i had to cease and desist from my primary goal and go open said f'in door.
    .
the bollix stood there with the trolley in fronta him so i just wheeled it in and closed the door as i was under somewhat of an internal pressure asitwere.
    .
i know you don't really need to hear the details so i'll leave the rest hanging...........
    .
suffice to say the author is now in much better fettle and ready to start the day proper like...............
    .
thus relieved i ventured back down to the reception with me helmet (read lid) in hand and without thinkin' winked towards the receptionist..........this turned out to be a bit of a mistake cos she turned out to be a he (change of the guard as it were) and he winked back at me.............oh holy fuck thinks i, what next..........but bravery won through and i soldiered on.
    .
collected me bike and ready for a bit of a day out but first a couple of pics of aforementioned square/piazza in the daylight...
