I am heading to Baja in a couple weeks from north county SD.

Julian south through cleveland national forest to Tecate. Gas up before crossing
Cross boarder and head east toward El Hongo to find Compadre trail, south to Ojos Negro
Gas up in Ojos Negro and then off to find Mike's Sky ranch

Day 2 head south east to Gonzaga Bay

Day 3 riidng around Gonzaga, back to Mikes's...no idea really

    Day 4 home

First trip to Baja, Any thoughts about this initial route... landmarks to help me find Compadre trail?
We are kinda winging it with the baja almanac as our only guide.

Any thoughts about the Spot GPS beacon, tracker thing. Is it worth it?

    thanks

The BA is all you need. From Tecate head east on the libre, not the cuota. A few miles after you pass Rancho Ojai (KOA) you will see a sign at an intersection for Rancho Santa Veronica. Turn right ( south). That is the compadre trail and will take you to Ojos.

About the spot. It's a gadget nothing more. If you treat it as such you won't be disappointed. It's a pretty good family pleaser if they will be worried about where you are everyday. Other than that don't count on it to save your ass. You won't be in a remote area on your ride, FWIW.
