this is really cool, we should have a sticky where we can post a ride if we are alone and then we would have fellow advriders keeping a eye on us
    ?????????????what do yah think ???

Seriously cool. Not 100% certain how I want to use this, as the number of options and capabilities is somewhat bewildering. I just did a cross-country trip and Spot's page was...lacking. Will be interesting to see what I can do with SpotWalla. That thread with the rescue playing out (I know it's a coupla years old) was very cool, though I'm expecting more the ability to randomly see friends and inmates than anything else.

In addition, I've learned a whole bunch of do/do not techniques with the SPOT, just from the threads I saw linked after reading through this one. Great learning experience--done on my couch with a beer rather than in a ditch and unable to self-recover!

Signed up with my username, but my map tag is 1GS. I popped up on there a few miles from home (outside the security zone) coming back from my run this morning. Neat!

Couple questions. What are you guys checking form notification boxes? OK, Help, Tracking Custom? I'm signed up as LAC but only checked the Help box. Maybe I need to add others so just checking to see what everyone else is doing..

Also I seem to have spotwalla issues that I cannot figure out. When I first look at at page I see everyone on the map. The moment I zoom or do anything everthing disappears never to return. Is this an IE issue? or so I have some other issue going on.. Can't figure it out.

OK, Help, Tracking and Custom are the four different messages you can send from your Spot according to the buttons you push. On Spotwalla tick the ones you want recorded on your map. (I tick all of them).

For Tracking messages, you also need to subscribe to that option on Spot.com - it costs an additional $50/pa. This will then record your tracking messages and Spotwalla will poll the Spot server every 5 minutes and upload the message.

There are some issues with IE, so if something is missing try a different browser - Firefox appears to be fine.

    Tradey,

Thanks for the Info. I updated and checked tracking and now I can see myself on the map as LAC then as I hover over as my ADV Username like it should. Only works for me on Firefox though. Spotwalla doesn't work well for me on IE for some reason..

As an old guy here and a gentleman of leisure, I often head off on my own with no particular place to go. It could take up to a month (when my rent is due) for anyone to notice my absences. I'll just need to call for a trailer or S&R for more serious problems.

    What are my best options?

Looks like Rambler is still posting a non-emergency help message from August of last year.

    Hi all,
So when I go to the Spotwalla location page list and find the advrider page, I'm supposed to click the "add me" link under the actions column. But there are no links in that column. Wonder what I am missing?
I have successfully activated my Spot3, and sent (and received) a check in message, so the device seems to be working, although it won't let me update firmware.
    Any clues? Many thanks!

OK, after switching computers the link showed up and I it to work. I am now DMN on the shared page. Seems the collective is correct that the whole "Spot experience" is less than stellar. Got the firmware updated using the laptop, now just need to ignore the constant reminder to update my firmware:huh

Anyway, this is a great resource for me. I will be traveling all over the country this summer and like the idea of my help message, should I be needing to use it, going to nearby inmates. (If I understand this all correctly) Still not sure if I have it all set up correctly but that's my goal. More testing to be done.

BTW, I guess I should mention this is on my just activated Spot Gen3.

Did you ask Jason for help? He's been a great resource when I needed assistance.

Anyone know how to unjoin the page? I've got a new device and when I added it, my old location (outdated by a couple years) still shows on the map, but I don't see a way to remove it.
