I had a PM from another inmate who's planning an event in the area (North Conway NH/Fryeburg Maine) the week before Memorial Day. So as not to conflict, we'll do the Spring Rendezvous the weekend after Memorial Day, June 7th through 9th. This is more convenient, in any event, as I don't have to ask the state park system to open early.

It also cuts down on a lot of work for me. I assume that most people will want to camp in the shelters at Brighton State Park. There are 23 of them, so I don't think that we'll overburden the place. Each shelter will sleep up to eight people, but four are included in the fee, with an additional charge after that.

There are also cabins. These are a little harder to reserve. If you think you'll want a cabin, please take responsibility to reserve it yourself as early as possible for as many people as are in your group. The cabins will sleep four, and include beds but no bedding (bring your sleeping bag or sheets and blankets), table, chairs, and an electric light and an outlet or two, They are unheated, and cooking and pets are not allowed inside the building. I've stayed in the cabins in the past, and they are very comfortable..

If you want to tent, or are bringing a camping trailer or RV, there are plenty of sites available for this. They are "dry" sites, and do not have electrical hook-ups. The tenting/RV sites are less expensive than the shelters.

Several bath houses are distributed throughout the park, and water taps are conveniently located.

Staying at Brighton for Friday and Saturday night will give most of us the opportunity to travel with fairly minimal gear, and enjoy the ride on light bikes.

Except for the cabins, reservations are generally not necessary early in the season. After July the place fills up on weekends. I'll keep tabs, though, and still see if we can get the group rate.

    Same for me.

Also cleared the date with a riding buddy from NH, who is also up for it.

I plan to tent near you and use you as a decoy.

Then I plan on drinking so much that the flies ignore the stench of near-death coming off of me.

It really depends on how wet or dry it is in the spring. Wet spring = bad black flies.

Either. It gives one heck of a jolt mixed with a little gin or sprinkled over a Marlboro.

Been talking with Ms. Barb about the menu. Her famous breakfast sandwiches are likely to figure in the plan for at least one breakfast. Friday evening, we're likely to do a big pot of chili, rolls, and a salad. The chili is part of the plan because it's easy to keep warm as people straggle in. It's going to be a meat chili, and not excessively hot, but we'll plan on having plenty of add-ins for them as want to suffer the "red eye" in the AM.

We'll do our best to accommodate people with special dietary needs. For you grazers, we can throw together a pot if chili without meat, for example. If you have any specific food allergies, please let us know. We'll try to keep the well-known killers out of the chow -- no nuts, and no shellfish.
