Spring Break ride in Orygun anyone? Last year was pretty fun. This year might be dryer, less snowish? I'm in for the right weekend!!!:D

I may or may not have two weeks off.... what type of riding is crooked river? think a sport tire would work on it? If not I might just have to ground out those last few miles before hand ;)

    Hi Jay,
The spring break crooked river camp and ride is a happening thing but I can't be there do so I think Applejam (Jeff) had picked up the ball.

Zaeth, a knobbie might be a better choice here's the link to my photos from last year:

I won't have spring break myself...but I'll come out for some weekend fun like last year! :rofl

And I would expect it to be "warmer" than last year...but probably just as muddy!

I just depends on the day weather guessers are all over the place with lows down to 8 degrees and a couple days later a high of 63 degrees.

Sounds like leaving the night of the 29th after work and setting camp. Meet at Jeff's place or mine if'n you don't remember where Jeff lives. Cause my place is so much easier to find.:huh Strike out in the sunshine and warm weather to broken'bent'crooked river (whatever), set up camp have some ice cold beers and mountain house. Then when the sun goes down from a wonderfully beautiful warm sunny day, start a very small fire just to keep the bugs at bay. Relax and talk about how nice the weekend is gonna be and how we love spring and the constantly warming nights. How light it was at 6:37pm that day, then when full and drunk slip carefully into our perfectly comfortable 50 degree bag and snooze the night away.

    YOU IN ZACH?

It will be like a frickin' dream man...................:norton

Those pictures from last year looked like a fun adventure. In fact, count me in for this year if you have the room.

Anybody have the name/GPS coordinates for where you are planning on camping? May drive there (Truck Camper and Trailer), in which case I can bring some firewood.

Directly South of Prineville, down Hwy 27 (The Crooked River Hwy),
about 2/3 the way down from Prineville towards the West end & dam of the Prineville Reservoir.

The BLM owns this Wild & Scenic 8-mile section of the Crooked River:
(it's a slow-loading PDF brochure, but worth it)

    http://www.blm.gov/or/resources/recreation/files/brochures/new%20crooked.pdf

No dispersed camping through this stretch, but 11 nice camprounds total, are free through March 31st.
We picked Chimney Rock CG, at the very end of it at campsite #1.
It was a GREAT campspot, right by the river. A vault toilet is nearby, just accross the gravel parking lot.
Lots of room for plenty of bikes and a half-dozen or so pickups, even.

Vault Toilet?....who taught tyou how to camp? I could bring you that toilet seat and we could set it up over the sidecar of arsvivor's new Ural.:D

    S1

PS: (actually I have a deep dark confession about that 'king toilet seat. You know I said it was a round one and I had you check that what you needed was a round one and not the oval one which is longer. We'll F' me....I am such a confused and sorry individual......it's not a round one....we use round one's at our house....it's a frigging oval one that I have. If you want or need an oval one it's all yours....I do still have it. It's still in the truck of the car....sorry for being such a thick idiot.....or we could just mount it to assrivors new Ural:evil).

PS: Does this imply I want to come. Yes. Do I have permission yet. No. Am I working on it. Yes. I am now anyway (hello s1marks-wife who reads all my posts to see what trouble I'm getting into....I love you honey...might be a little late home...was thinking of dropping by the flowers shop on the way).

Took the wife to dinner tonight, so maybe I get to go too? We'll see. I do need to burn up some vacation before the end of March or will loose it. Work has some funny rules...

I'll have my daughter that weekend. So I'll have to see how it works out for me. We might come out in my ghetto truck with my ghetto camper to stay warm and maybe I can find a nanny for the day part while I ride? :evil

With any luck, I'll be getting used to my new Dakar...

    I'll show up somehow!

Well, this is becoming a nice little group isn't it. In the interest of keeping a new bike from becoming a place to shit. I'll be riding the DR. Yes I'll have the trailer, but it will not :topes be mounted with a toilet seat, so keep your squatting arses away from my trailer. :flush Also, as many of us are taking a longer trip later in the year, we can come together on dates for the CO trip. Sounds like many of the attendees for this spring break shindig will also be traversing the route to RAMR. So, with that in mind I'll bring the maps and calendar for what I plan on to get to and from CO. I'm will be looking for input on places to stay that interest folks. :p3rry

What is the thought for gathering to get to where we plan on camping here. Anyone have ideas for a meeting spot or launch location? Still thinking about dropping by Jeffs Thursday night scooping him up for a leader. I have not attended this before and would rather have a veteran lead us to the site. I know some are driving cause they can't handle a little chill when sleeping. And we will need dry wood to keep us warm and cozy. So, actually these drivers will help immensely.

I have a big pile (already split) of elm that is the result of a wind/snow storm last year about this time. I don't have a wood stove to burn it in so I can donate a bunch to the cause. Course that means I have to bring a vehicle so I might as well bring my camper:lol3.
