It's a mix. Only real choice to highway 20 is big gravel roads, but once we cross, well, it's mostly desert 2 track!
There is great riding in the Maury and Ochocos, but they are usually still covered with snow as you know. South of Highway 20 is where it's at that time of year. None of that gloppy clay, just nice pumice!:clap

Edit: It is a full days ride. But starts and ends with big gravel roads. I'll map out the route with mileage this spring. Perfect excuse to get out there! (Like I need one)
Fuel will most likely have to be arranged, but that's no big deal.

    I like what I'm seeing about 2-track.
Fuel? Meh. Not an issue for Punkin if I know ahead of time and fill. 300 miles has been my worst range workin it hardest on dirt. 400 miles on a 55 mph hiway.

Hmmm, this is looking interesting. Pending any unforseen hospital stays, I think I'm in.

If I'd have to guess I'd say the mileage is around 200. My XR has around a 225 range. Hampton Station is good about having some cans of fuel if I call ahead for those that may need it. Work all that out come March. Who knows, the hills could be snow free by then!

Question. Is this open to new people? Are there some good rides that are intermediate level?

I am riding a 1999 KLR 250 with Anakee 3's(80% street). I have about 10K miles riding on 3 dual sports but that's 95% street riding.

I love camping, so that part seems fine.

I have about 250 miles range. Are there fueling stations within the area?

I love it out there. Fill the tank and off you go. Never hard to find the Highway, just head north! Pick a road over the horizon and see where it leads! Half those 2 tracks aren't on maps.
That one is south of Brothers.

    FOR SURE!!

I was a first timer last year, had an XR400 there, so i didn't do any big road trips, just local windy stuff & up on top of the plateau around the Millican flats area, where you can putz around or go hard into the sandy trails & OHV area...check out last years photos, you'll be in! Plenty of riders do this & just stay local to camp.

Get back to camp, get into comfortable clothes, grab the fishin pole & ride along the river trying your luck. :bubba

    OH YEAH...I'M 'IN'.

ain't it grand!?,,see that point over there,we can ride to it!

when I grew up over that way we'd say,,if you can see it,,you can find a way to ride to it,,that's what's wrong with this side of the big hills,,ya can't see anything!
Oh, and Squishy's point of,,"always pack a fishing implement",,fresh caught trout in all them streams!:deal
I SO hate the cold anymore,,it just cripples my hands. I'll check the weather, and I wouldn't tell YFF"s if I wuzgunna show or not anyway,,so there too!
I'll promise to go if Linkweewee gets a bike and goes too,,how's that?

This place is it's own medicine, no hospital required!
You might, since you're gonna show up on Thursday and take two days off. We're not putting up with you showing up on tthe last day of something any more. You have to show up early and blow off work like the rest of us losers from now on beeotch!!!
Like peterman says......"YOU" were already invited :nod
Fuel is 17 miles away in Prineville, and many people won't use 250 miles worth all weekend. You can keep plenty busy riding all day and go just 50 miles if you want, or haul ass for 200 on sweet dirt/gravel and hit another town for gas if that's what you want.
No worries here, just show up with a full tank, and the rest of the weekend will unfold!
    With capitol letters, even!!

Calling all motorhome / travel trailer attendees.......
We need a volunteer with an extra bunk for peterman!!

A campfire is just not the same without you, man.
If we come with the enlosed trailer, call it yours for the night, but I may show up solo on Punkin, so I can't guarantee it.

We will make you feel at home! Anyone's welcome! I was a noob to these ADV gatherings until:
I had ridden for years (10 to be exact),"alone and afraid" to join in with these guys...So I bit the bullet and went to my first ADV rally and I popped my cherry at the 2012 Spring Brake!
Now some of my best friends are from the ADV crew!
As tough as we inmates seem, we are are really just a bunch of homeless vagabonds longing for a free campfire and some other lost souls to commiserate with!
They really are a great "family" of riders! It is all about what you make of it!
    Fair warning:
By your second ADV gathering, you will be well seasoned and fair game, so you'll have to grow a pair and get ready to roll with it!
Bring firewood, a chair, and something to drink!
Be ready to be cold and wet all the way to sitting in the sun in shorts for lunch!
You just never know what the weather brings!
