Dam! Too short notice, I would have
I thought I read somewhere that part of the parkway was closed???
We rode from Cherokee to Asheville in June be sure to check out some of the side roads and catch a few of the waterfalls.
Here is a map showing some of the road closures.
Yeah I know is short notice but one of my buddy's at work needed a couple of days off. So a couple of trades and a single day vacation and looking at 5 days off .
I'll have look and see if I can find anything about part of the Parkway being closed. Thanks for the heads up bruce .
I haven't heard of any of the Parkway it's self being closed, but some of the campgrounds are closed dew to the stupid sequester.
Any good rides for Saturday?
There is a trailer out back loaded with a couple bikes and at first light wife, dog and I are aiming for Palmer lake.
I'm wondering if riding will pull us away from the lake playing with the dog.....it better.
Anybody riding tomorrow? My plans just changed and may now be able to swing a ride in........
I'm on my way home from Colorado in the morning. Otherwise I'd love to. We got in just short of 1000 miles of gravel in 6 days.
Sounds like a blast! Did you ride Boreas Pass from Como to Breckenridge? That's the old rock railroad bed Trev and I road those old Goldwings over along with two other buddies on Shadows.
Got a chance to do some riding today and try my new to me 60csx. I decided to use some of big dogs and someone else's shawnee tracks. After 400 miles, I got a lot of learning to do to use the gps to its full capabilities. It was a helluva lot of fun though following the tracks!
Made it down the Klondike road today from the north. My first time. The DR was fine for it today but would not have wanted any more water in the ruts out for it to be any more slippery.
Did you have to go around the gate or was it open? Klondike was closed for awhile, good to hear it's still rideable.
I would guess Klondike would be as easy/dry as it could get.
Glad to hear its open.
Since you told me you're always drawn to the river here's a couple pics fron Sunday. Burnham Island
This shot is looking south with the island on the right and IL on the left.
This one is looking north with the island on the left. I got to where I am at by riding across the gravel bar at the op of the water. There was another crossing to get to the island proper but I was running out of time and needed to get home.
Google earth shows the island to be huge with trails all over it. The Gazetter shows it to be divided into a sub island (Goose Island). The Mississippi was at 10' in Cape on Sunday and is supposed to drop another foot so I am going to try to go back later in the week.
That looks like fun Kanur
I'm headed to lbl this weekend.
If you have ride time the following weekend maybe you could trail guide me a bit.
I should be able to, the wifey already has things she has to do.
you still open for a ride this weekend Kanur? I haven't ran it up the flag pole yet, see which day works best for you. Sat or Sun, AM/PM, let me know what you think.
