There's a lot of wide open space between us (thank God), I wanted to start a thread to bridge that space, and for Montanans to check in, find each other, and yabber ... maybe help a brother out when we're riding in other counties around the state.

This first post will be a directory of sorts.

I don't check the Rockies Regional forum often, but when I do I sometimes see folks asking question we might answer ... but I'm often too late to help. This thread is also for folks needing some quick route help or assistance in a break down.

Montanans, please feel free to pop in a post as a shout out and include where you live. Also you may want to subscribe to this thread so you know when something is happening.

As many of you know, I'm organising an annual ride: The Montana 1000. This is a difficult thing to organise and I'm going to need a lot of help for it to become the cool thing it might be.

I would VERY much appreciate it if you could help.

Even if you can't make the ride, I need a lot of help getting local information on routes and cool places and where we might bivouac each night of the ride.

I'm particularly interested in someone whos familiar with the southern Bitterroot Valley and might know of large bivouac places there.

If you can help, even a little bit, with local information in your area, would you please check in to the Montana 1000 planning thread.

    Thanks! :wave

Great idea Putts. I, like Putts, am a Bozeman local. Feel free to get in touch with me regarding anything. I'm more than willing to help out a fellow rider with anything I can.

Putts: I'm in Helena. What do you need in your directory? Cheapryder is a good resource if someone needs a mechanic in this area.

    Big news Montana!

We're going to have WestFest here.

    :huh

Worry not, I've been to a couple and it's not difficult.

    :clap

It's likely we'll do quite a bit of the organizing right here in this thread, so feel free to subscribe and keep an eye out.

This is going to be epic.

I know most around this great state of ours don't like Butte, yet I find myself liking this rough little town the longer I am here. Lots of dirt and dirt road riding here. Spectacular history too.

WestFest here? WhoHoooo! Maybe I should get in on the planning since it wont take much work to attend. Let me know what I can do Putts.

Also, my brother and I grew up in a butcher family and have been known to cook many a whole pig in the ground. This sound like a worthy event for a porcine sacrifice:freaky.

What we need is a ranch with a big barn we can take over for a week, ideally within 5 miles north or ten miles south of Darby.

Anybody know anybody that might know anybody?

Kinsman is putting his feelers out, but we need as many people rooting around as possible.

I'll settle for a camp ground or dude ranch, but that's likely to cost more, and I think it would be really cool to do "rustic" for a Montana WestFest. Wouldn't it be cool if people could sleep in a big barn loft?

Finding the spot and locking in the date is CRITICAL. Lot's of folks need to plan vacations far in advance. Please, ask around if you know someone in the Souther Bitterroot Valley.

Darby is a good location because it has motels and resteraunts, gas and bars. Between Skalcaho Pass and south to Sula there is a gillion miles of dirt. Road riders will have Lolo and Wise River Road to play on, and Bannack is right in there.

Kinsman has the food and porta-potties covered. icebox, I think we might need that big truck of yourse to move a bunch of food service shit on the Friday between Kinsman's in Florence to the site in Darby. And well need maybe four strong bodies to volunteer to help in that move.

But remember, if you're going on the MT1000 you won't be there. I'm sure there will be plenty of folks who won't be in the 1000 so don't sweat anything and volunteer too early. I'm sure everyone who'd like to help will be able to find just the right way to pitch in as we go along.

That's it for now, I guess.
