b.JPG "State of Jefferson",aka far norther,Ca. /southern Oregon (trying to secede from the union) I read about a proposed OHV route from Yreka ,Ca. to the coast near Smith River,Ca.,, named the "State of Jefferson Trade Route" found a map at (scorr-usa.org )" Siskiyou County Off Road Riders " site and after much map study a friend and I decided to check it out on our legal dual sport bikes, a dr650 and drz400. On the map the route is about 225 miles one way, using mostly dirt Forest Service rds in various condition ,some pavement for,gas /stores The route covers a very remote special area of Norcal, So.oregon. We live in Mt. Shasta and did some of our own variations to hook up with the route west of Yreka

I'll summarize the route while I figure out the pic thing,,, it worked a couple days ago? SCORR marked this rt. using USFS maps, Klamath and Siskiyou maps We went from Mt.Shasta up over Scarface ,rd to Fort Jones (gas, etc) and intercepted the rt. west of Yreka in the Scott Bar mtns . Rode down to the Scott river, some pavement to the dirt up to Lake mtn in the Marble mtns. This all burned last year all the way to Happy Camp, thousands of acres, Due to the fires and recent t- storms we hit some tricky mudslides on our way down Walker crk to Seiad (gas etc) continued on to Happy Camp. Largest town on hwy 96 along the Klamath River. Wandered various awesome dirt rds. up to Page mtn on the Oregon border, We camped next to a beautiful creek surrounded by huge cedar trees. Took off in the cold morning fog to O'Brien Or. on hwy 199 Gas food etc. next followed the historic Weimer rd. to the N.Fork of the Smith River crossing, spectacular riding and views!!.. Next onto High Divide rd to Rowdy crk and into the Town of Smith River THE COAST!! , beautiful,,, hung out at the mouth of the Smith River ,watched hundreds of seals waiting on the Salmon run to start It worked !!! 235 miles Spectacular route. Thanks Siskiyou Off Rd. Riders for your mapping efforts

coast5.jpg [IMG]Looking out over the N. Fork of the Smith River, huge wildfire here some years ago .I think this is the only major undammed river system in Calif , I was lucky enough to have kayaked this incredible ,pristine, section down to the Main Smith in the Redwoods, water so clear its like flying over the river bottom.. Nickel Mining companies are trying to get approval to strip mine here ,so much for Salmon and Steehead if it happens!

062coast8.jpg [IMG] Next morning headed north out of Seiad valley to explore the proposed "Siskiyou National Monument". We.ve done overnite rides thru this area several times, Seems to be a very little used part of our world, considering it's a proposed national monument. We follow F.S. roads north to Siskiyou Ridge for a roughly 50 mile ,very scenic ridge ride east to the summit of Mt Ashland, This route sort of follows the Pacific Crest Trail, incredible views, terrain etc.
