Cruzin' the Siskiyou ridge towards Mt. Ashland
Top of Mt. Ashland,,great view of the Rouge Valley, Nice little ski area here too. Next wander down Beaver Crk drainage towards the Klamath River again
Rad! My family is from the area. Do you think my wee could make it up Dutchman's peak to Ashland? Have you ridden from 96 over to Applegate Lake? I'm very curious about that road. s
Cross the Klamath, ( late lunch at Quigleys store), up into the mtns above Yreka we spy home in the distance, Mt Shasta. One thing about being fortunate enough to live in a great place is it's never bad going home! 3 great days exploring ,465 miles of fun ! Thanks for tolerating my first ride report . It's been so great for me to have gotten so many trip ideas from this forum!
I'm sure you could get to Dutchman Pk from Mt.Ashland ,Forest service rig gets there, Fairly smooth dirt,, 96 at Seiad to Applelgate should be okay,,Subarus access the Pct at the top. Rode it a few years ago ,gains a lot of elevation ! The rd. up Elliot crk from Applegate has some tricky, rougher stuff ,
I love that I know of all these roads from growing up in the area. THANK YOU. I know what I am doing over labor day! I love Siskiyou County and Trinity. I have been up there four or five times already this summer. I rode a fun new squiggle out of McCloud last week.
Awesome you get here often,Pretty special around here !! Endless dualsport !! I never take it for granted
We just posted up our ghetto touring thread which chronicles our norcal stupidity. I took my buddy up there and blew his mind. We're hooked. I will sleep on dirt to be able to ride those roads. They are magic. Thinks for the thread, it's definitely inspiring and has me excited. I wanna ride all the roads!
>"Seiad to Applelgate should be okay,,Subarus access the Pct at the top..."
Couple months ago... a BMW 525 was up there.
Road is nice... but up-hill all the way to the top.
Twilight, thanks for confirming. I have been eyeing that squiggle on the map for months. My fellow rider has an SV and is f'ing insane. I figure if my DL650 can make it so can his SV.
Just a guess, but I bet it was down-hill all the way to the bottom.
Decisions,,decisions,,,5 way intersection on Siskiyou Ridge..... all good !
>"Just a guess, but I bet it was down-hill all the way to the bottom. "
Yup... I was running a KTM 690 on... fumes. I shoulda gassed up in Applegate.
Did make it to the 'station' at the bottom... 18 miles on reserve.
Thank you for the ride report.
I really enjoyed the pictures. I love that part of the country. Mt. Shasta and southern Oregon are stunning.
Never pass gas.
There used to be gas at McKee, not sure about that anymore.
>"Wait. Whut? There used to be gas at McKee, not sure about that anymore."
There is a 'self-service' gas station in Seiad valley. Just downstream (Klamath) of the road.
There was some gas over on the Applegate side of the mountain... we rode by it.
On that loop we rode up to Bolan lake from Hwy 96. Good ride on that side of the mountain.
The Orygun side it was 'USFS Primary' gravel... downhill! (40 ' road).
Been over the mountain from 96 to/from Orygun 4 ways now.
Way to go! If you have any Google or GPS tracks to share that would be cool.
Sorry, kind of out of it,,low tech, Used paper Benchmark maps and Siskiyou,Klamath Forest Service Maps . Orignal idea came from "Siskiyou County Off RD. Riders" map on their website,(scorr-usa.org)
Thanks for posting. I've got property in the Mt. Shasta Vista sub-division, don't get that way enough but have aspirations of getting up there to ride some more of the dirt.
Did you go over the way that led you to Applegate Lake? I used to live off Carberry Creek as a kid.
I gotta send you some PM's, sounds like you and I like the same roads.
