    Ok, my brethren...let's get started.

    It took forever to get myself ready to go.

    <img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/plunger-ears/Road%20Zombie/Never%20Grow%20Up/P1040305.jpg">

    Getting a late start let a storm get past me and set me up for a freezing day.

    <img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/plunger-ears/Road%20Zombie/Never%20Grow%20Up/P1040310.jpg">

    <img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/plunger-ears/Road%20Zombie/Never%20Grow%20Up/P1040311.jpg">

    I kept it at 75 mph and the CHP seemed ok to just let me roll today. By the time I could see them through the ice on my face shield they had my speed, so why slow down?

    <img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/plunger-ears/Road%20Zombie/Never%20Grow%20Up/P1040312.jpg">

    The weather finally got better near Bishop and I made Big Pine for my last fuel stop. I had been getting about 40 mpg and the bike was running great.

    <img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/plunger-ears/Road%20Zombie/Never%20Grow%20Up/P1040314.jpg">

    Ok, we're going in...

    <img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/plunger-ears/Road%20Zombie/Never%20Grow%20Up/P1040315.jpg">

    Stopped for a break and a nip.

    I made it to camp, I added a power port for my mattress compressor and my Slime compressor. It's been years of sitting in the dirt wheezing into my air mattress, sure was nice to just stand there drinking a beer while it filled up.

    <img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/plunger-ears/Road%20Zombie/Never%20Grow%20Up/P1040322.jpg">

    I had the worlds most awesome Lunchable for dinner.

    I went for a soak and met some new people, but I heard a voice at a nearby camp and went for a look. "Hello, the camp.", "Yes?", "I'm here for your last beer.", haha, it was Last Beer Dan as we started calling him last year. Hugs and stuff, explaining that Paris was okay, but not well enough to make the trip this year and all that.

    I ended the night with some popcorn. :lurk

    As many of you know I've been working extremely hard the last couple of months to transform this bike and today is all about taking a nap, reading a book and soaking in hot springs until my skin melts off.

    Made some brunch.

    <img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/plunger-ears/Road%20Zombie/Never%20Grow%20Up/P1040331.jpg">

    Dan and gang stopped by to tell me they were hiking to the upper springs. I said I'd give them an hour, then ride up to join them. He said that if I was riding I should go to his camp and get some beer for the group.

    Don't have to twist my arm. :lol3

    <img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/plunger-ears/Road%20Zombie/Never%20Grow%20Up/P1040332.jpg">

    I still made it there before them.

    There was a couple there, so I just sat around outside the springs waiting for the gang.

    I had made plans with Nowhere Bob to go for a ride and hike today, so I was up early for a good breakfast...he's one hell of a hiker and I needed some fuel to keep up with him.

    Aww, the gang's all here!! Thanks for reading, kids!!

    Last day out.

    <img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/plunger-ears/Road%20Zombie/Never%20Grow%20Up/P1040423.jpg">

    Nowhere Bob had overheard me talking to another fella about some 'glyphs that I know of and Bob asked if I'd show them to him on my way out over Steel Pass.

    We met up at Dans for some coffee and headed out.

    <img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/plunger-ears/Road%20Zombie/Never%20Grow%20Up/P1040425.jpg">

    The first place Bob wanted to see was the marble tub.

    <img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/plunger-ears/Road%20Zombie/Never%20Grow%20Up/P1040429.jpg">

    The I took him to the 'glyphs and he found one that I hadn't seen before because the paint had faded leaving only the stippling.

    <img src="http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a32/plunger-ears/Road%20Zombie/Never%20Grow%20Up/P1040430.jpg">

    He wanted to hike down into the dry falls that I had told him about so we said our goodbyes. The bike had been acting up on the way up to the pass, but seemed better on this side. I was really confused about what was going on.

    I pulled up and stopped at the end of that video. The gravity of my situation hadn't fully sunk in yet...I'm out of fuel. I really screwed up and ran my numbers based on the 40 mpg I had gotten on the way south, but I was around 30 mpg and pretty much out.

    I decided to screw with the carbs to give myself the best chance of making it closer to town before having to walk. I raised the needles to get me into the main jet sooner, then leaned out the fuel mix screws. I was so low on fuel that there wasn't enough left to get a good pump from the acc pumps, it would just starve out.

    I'm beyond screwed, it's a Tuesday and there are rarely people in this area during the week...I'm on my own and it's my own damn fault.

    I made it out to Death Valley Road and started west, I'm really not in a safe zone until I make it past Saline Valley Road and it really hit me how bad things were when well before then there wasn't any fuel at all showing in the filter for the right side carb.

    Somehow I wheezed the bike into town...it's a 5.8 gallon tank with the fuel pump removed.

    I treated myself to a nice breakfast at the cafe.

    Completely frozen I found a hot spring to get my core temp back up during my ride back north.

    Monitor Pass was open again.

    Crested Luther Pass to drop down into South Lake Tahoe, shifted up to sixth and bang, no more power to the ground...ran through the gears and it was the same in every gear. I was at 7,000 feet in the dark and coasted as far as I could, looking for a safe spot where I could load it in the pickup assuming I could get ahold of my wife to come get me.

    I hiked around in the woods looking for a cell signal, but my wifes phone went to voicemail, called Nixels in Oakland to get him to play relay to my wife. We got her dialed in for a rescue and I settled in for a cold couple of hours.

    Sat there shivering for about an hour and guess who flips a u-ie and comes back? Last Beer Dan!!! He was loaded down with camping gear, but he cleared out a place in the front seat and waited with me until my wife showed up a couple hours later.

    The missus and the dogs rescued me!!

    We found the number one pizza joint in SLTahoe and they stayed open for us to eat, what a great crew!!

    I have spent the rest of the week repairing this pile of junk. We're heading back to DV together on this thing if I can get it back together tomorrow. Worst case, we'll load up the street bike and go anyways.

    I had planned to do the final drive this week(last picture), not the clutch and trans shaft too. :baldy

    Thanks for reading and hopefully we come back in a few weeks with more stories to tell.
