my 2005.5 950 adventure has an odd whistling noise when I'm pulling away from a stop. Clutch is slipping or all the way out, low rpm, smallish throttle openings. It might happen at other time, but wind and mechanical noise drowns it out. It is, however, quite noticeable otherwise. It is coming from the front of the bike and is definitely engine related. Normally I would suspect a vacuum leak, but I've had it all apart pretty significantly and haven't been able to find anything. It doesn't really have any bad running habits aside from being jetted on the rich side. Any ideas? Is this normal? I've never been around another lc8 with the engine running, so I don't have much to base on.

That's the really cool gear whine from the gear driven cams.

haha no kidding. Guess no one really knows, but Pyndon's thoughts on the clutch make sense.

I had a thought that it might just have been due to oscillating loads on that split cam gear, but since the early bikes don't have that, I guess it wouldn't show up for everyone.

No, that's different, but I do really enjoy that sound. Somebody at the gas station the other day asked if it was supercharged, haha.

haha if it had a turbo, I'd be dead by now. I don't even know what I'd do with more power, except buy a lot more rear tires :evil

Mine did that - it was the small screw holes bottom side of mufflers for the baffles (which I removed) Sealed em up & noise gone :clap

Carb slides. Return your worry beads to their respective position.

990's throttle bodies do it as well.
