So some of you might have seen my thread in Southeast about my mechanical issues, which have now become a bit more immediate.

The bike is now making loud ugly noises from the bottom end again. A spirited run through the gears and then I heard the bike change. Not good.

My budget cannot handle a tow or anything like that. Basically, I once again throw my self at the mercy of the inmates. Can anyone help?

Call my cell if you can. 707 367 3110

Found the issue. One of my clutch spring bolts broke, shredding the cover and spreading bits of aluminum through my freshly cleaned engine. :cry

Not a "major" failure, but one needing a few days for parts to ship.

So, I need tent space, access to a bathroom and an address to send things to. Not too much to ask I hope. :)

I ended up putting it back together with the 5 springs, cleaned it out as best as possible and limped it into the closest cheap motel, slipping like a mofo. Can't really afford it, but can't afford to blow up the bike either. Now I just have to wait for CJRacer to send me some parts and change the oil, etc. :thumb

Should have been in N/W AR. We have a great bunch.

Glad you are getting it fixed.

Well, I'm floored Jim. Thank you.

I'm a pretty independent, self-sufficient, stubborn kind of guy, and I have a hard enough time asking for help that doesn't cost an inmate (or anyone else) money. I truly appreciate everything that the collective has done to help me on my sojourn. I only wish I could pay all of you back somehow other than doing a ride report, because that's the one thing I truly suck at. :D (terrible about stopping to take pics).

And, if my travel fund hadn't just taken a $1000 hit fixing the shift drum, I'd refuse the $. Looks like the parts bill from CJ's going to be the better part of $500, and he's giving me a smokin' deal! :deal

Thank you one and all. :bow

Once again, I am speechless at the generosity of the inmates. :bow

I'm still working on a plan to actually change said parts. sstewart is sending me the lockplate for the baskets, so I think all I'll need to acquire is a 1 1/4"/32mm socket and a way to turn it and I'll be golden. I saw a auto parts store back there, maybe they'll have a loaner and be understanding about travelers working in the parking lot. :evil

I really hate to have ridden it the three miles to where I am now, let alone any further, but not a whole lot of viable choices. I can just FEEL every little piece of metal, grinding it's way through my oil pump.

Well, talk about things coming together. JettinJim stuffs my Paypal account to the tune of $500.00, and the parts to fix the blow up worked out to $499. :clap

Thanks to the both of ya! :freaky(oh, and everyone else who's chimed in with well wishes and suggestions. too! :clap)

and if you are still in a bind, holler up..we'll see what we can do to either get you back on the road or send someone down to kidnap you and sell you as a sex slave in Phoenix! :evil

So I'm hanging outside, checking out the bike and chatting about the breakdown with one of the other motel guests, a itinerant refinery worker, and he hands me 3 quarts of Rotella and a 1 1/4 socket. The generosity of strangers continues to amaze me.

On to the oil change. The pics are ugly. I'll post em up in a bit.
