I was itching for weeks to get out on my Super Enduro with the new tank and OldtimerTC finally joined the insanity with Big-E's well farkled beast. We brought along Guy and his XR650L in case we ran into any trouble. :lol3

I outfitted my SE with new shoes a couple of months ago! It was cold and this 908 felt like a 17" plastic tire going on a 19" rim!

The front put up less of a fight.

Forty miles from home at the start of 4-Peaks Rd. I was already finding it extremely convenient to be able to glance down and see my fuel level.

OldtimerTC shows up on the other big twin.

That's a happy thumbs up! :thumb

This first small water crossing on 4-Peaks is rarely wet.

I can only think of one other time I have seen it running.

This one is almost never completely dry.

Guy found the deep spot and cooled off. Not that we needed it yet.

This biker told us there was fresh snow at the top of 4-Peaks last Monday and that's where the water was coming from.

We thought OldtimerTC was closer so Guy went back to investigate.

He wasn't far back. He was struggling with a missing part on his Camelback bite valve that forced him to chug the contents of the bladder or let it drench him while he rode!

We agreed to find a fix at the top of the mountain. A stick shoved in the tube would hold back the flow temporarily. I thought about it all the way to the top but didn't have any good ideas.

Until I remembered the (new!) earplugs in my pocket!

Coming down the east side of 4-Peaks Rd. there are great views of Roosevelt Lake.

We did a quick refuel and re-water stop near Punkin Center, north of Roosevelt Lake.

I tried to hide and catch the guys airing it out over these water breaks on the first big climb.

OldtimerTC spotted me but still got a decent wheelie in!

The 609 trail is normally a pretty fast one, but with damp areas and deep mud ruts it slowed me down almost to a crawl (compared to normal). We stopped for a break and some quick spelunking.

We made an attempt at light painting. Next time I need to bring a bright flashlight, tripod and a camera that will do more than a 15 second exposure! We'll see if I remember one of those... :lol3
    [IMG]

The camera flash barely lit this picture up. I added a lot of brightness to this image in software.

On the way out OldtimerTC's flashlight swept across this body in the cave. The adrenaline almost had me clinging to the ceiling! :eek1

These are some of the shallowest mud ruts we saw on the trail.

    Good ol' dirt-highway 288!

Even the highway had mud ruts! Not so much here.

Another shot on the move -this one is looking toward the valley that is home to the town of Young.

After lunch at the Antlers (that I didn't take a good picture of :doh) we headed to Workman Falls.

A hiker who camped in the area last week said the snow/ice pile surrounded the bottom of the falls and was 25 feet high then.

We continued south on Hwy 288 to A-Cross Rd.

Eventually you reach A-Cross trail (foot/pedal/hoof only).

There was a large Search and Rescue group getting ready to navigate the trail and retrieve someone with a broken ankle. On a smaller bike I would have offered to go get them. I saw one of the volunteers walking around with repelling gear. It could be a fun trail! :evil
    [IMG]

Shortly after leaving the trailhead area I sensed I was alone and looked back for a few minutes waiting for the sound of engines or sight of dust. Something was clearly wrong.

    Sure enough! :huh
    [IMG]

The chain guide came loose and traveled through the rear sprocket, knocking the chain off the sprocket and allowing it to bunch up behind the countershaft sprocket. The chain was tight against the swingarm all the way around. Some force and some wiggling got the countershaft sprocket off so that we could get the chain and chain guide mounted properly again.

The waterways that feed Roosevelt Lake from the north were running well!

OldtimerTC stopped to put on the water wings.

And then he showed us how it's done!

Normally, with the stock tank on the SE, I would see the fuel light flashing halfway across A-Cross road and have to run back to Punkin Center for gas before going over 4-Peaks. It's 25-ish miles to the other side of the mountain and another 15 to the next fuel stop.

I kept expecting to see the fuel light flashing on the way over 4-Peaks.

We stopped at the top for pictures. I tried to give OldtimerTC a mohawk with needle rock here. :D
    [IMG]

The road is mostly this light, loose gravel over hardpack stuff that is fun to slide on, as long as you know what's around the corner!

My low fuel light stayed off until 157.8 miles which was just as I crossed the intersection where I could have turned to top off. I was able to monitor my fuel consumption through the translucent tank for the next 25.4 miles and pulled into my garage with ounces left! :eek1

Thanks Allen for posting up another awesome ride report , and for sharing your B-day with us.!

Thanks for leading us on an epic day of riding. The SE really kicked my butt , although it sure was fun. My Camera is still in the tank bag, i will get it out and add a few photos to the report.

BTW : For anyone who has not been yet, the food at the New Antlers was awesome !! Allen got the Peach Rubarb Cobbler ala mode for His Bday ...I had to sneak a taste and it was delightful !
