I think that lexan is sweet, I wouldn't paint them until they got so scratched up they would look better painted.

I don't know if you've seen my hand guards I made but I painted them green. They are made out of blue plastic barrels.

Where are you getting the jets for that price? I did the Dr. Jeckyl fix but that may be my problem.

OK ...I'm sitting here thinking about put in the XT225 jets that came in, question

#1. will I need to do anything with the airfilter/box set up from stock with this massive pilot jet change?

#2. also what about the exaust ?

the reason I ask is on a lot of other bikes when you do a pipe/airbox you need to do a rejet .

I don't think so. We are trying to get the motor to run as designed not get more performance than it was built for. The motor is under jetted which is apparent by its cold nature. Now modding the air intake or exhaust will end with more hp if done correctly but I think most here just wants it to run like it should and not be so cold natured or slugish .

Very excited about the 30 pilot jet, I'll probably put one in my Sherpa soon and report on it!

Just got done putting a 15 tooth front sprocket on. Man that was so worth it! Got this bike with a 13 tooth front on it. Then I changed from huge knobbie Kenda 270's to Shinko 705's very close to stock tire size and 14 tooth front. Was much happier when I did that. Now with the 15 tooth front I like the bike even more! 6th gear isn't really worth shifting into until 45mph or so and its still not revving much then. I hit 82 according to the speedo on flat highway pretty easily, I weigh about 190.

    Sherpa Love!:clap

Welp....I put in the 40 pilot that is stock in a XT225 and it's a no go,:huh:huh the bike lopes and smokes black on idle, and pops and farts on a rev, :cry:cry:cry I did give the air screw a turn and that made it 4 full turns out from bottomed out, it was at 3 full turns.

I left in the factory 130 main.....any thoughts.....

does anybody know where the air screw is at factory settings ?

the one thing that worried me is the pilot that was in the bike ( according to the previous ouner is a Dr.J (#20) and it does look like it says 20 on it but I just couldn't be 100% as the numbers are tinny) has holes (4 I believe) on the stem and the one I just put in has zero holes....keep in mind the one that I put in is a factory Yamaha XT 225 #40.

it looks like the Dr.J will go back in this weekend.

I just bought a 2009 Sherpa with 85 miles on it 2 hours ago. I'm looking forward to getting back into trail riding. I have seen a lot of great info on this thread. This thread is part of the reason I decided to buy it. That and the great price I got - $2,600.

Ok so 40 is to rich according to that but it might be your pilot jet , the 40 pilot I have has the 4 holes in it, 30 worked for RX so Im going to try that with mine then go from there

I know very little about this, but didn't you turn the screw the wrong way? As a previous poster stated, out = richer, and wouldn't that 40 jet have set up a rich condition by itself? Thus, you'd want to turn it in to create a leaner mix?

Well I did the Dr Jeckyl thing, maybe i'll just pull those out & drill out to #30 instead of buying new.

I am going to turn the screw in tonight, I will start at 1/2 turn our and go from there before I take out the 40.

I still think it's the absence of the holes in the stem of the jet that is the culprit.

I will get pics when I can.

So it looks like there are heavy duty fork springs available (Progressive Suspension 11-1536).

And it appears someone was able to graft on some un-identified CRF (what year/size?) forks on the front.

Is there any help for the shock? Any MX springs known to be a direct fit swap?

After having looked into the suspension a lot lately...I haven't found anything yet. But, I'm sure there probably is one thats close enough to be a direct drop-in it's just that no one has figured out it would work.
