Don T, that dialogue/response above should be required reading for all persons when they turn 18...and should be continued to be read every year for the rest of their lives. :nod

Sorry if this has been covered. How long was this trip? I thought it was all happening quickly until you said the fork in the road made you five weeks late.

    PS

Like you (and for the same reason) I don't bring a tent when riding solo and have never missed it - but when my girlfriend comes along (as she often do) it's nice to have the privacy of a tent

    Regarding the links:

The first one is about a Danish couple who have spent most of their lives traveling the world driven by the same
    incentive as you.
Their first book "Good Luck" was a big inspiration for me as a kid (I was 10 years old when it got published).
It's about a trip through North and South America on two thumpers with their kids - a girl of 1 and a boy of 5.
The girl Ida is now a grown woman who has followed in her parents foot steps organizing adventure/off road motorcycle trips around the world.

The second one is about Troels Kløvedal who has sail around the world several times on his ship "Nordkaperen" - often with his wife(s) and kids aboard.
One of his sons is now a very sympathetic and highly regarded journalist and TV host, who like his father spend as much time sailing the seas as possible.

I wanted to show that you can have kids and still live an adventures life - and at the same time be a good parent who by example provide your offspring with a sound set of values and a good foundation for their future life - even more so than most people who live a normal life and raise their children the traditional way.

@DON T: those are a couple of very interesting sites! Thanks for contributing them! Wish the moto trekking books were in English!

@Wesley.....uh, was that you cutting the first slice of wedding cake over in the other report??? What a teaser! Looking forward to the rest of your amazing story.

I was catching up with Lightcycle's latest updates and it made me think of some of the differences between traveling solo and riding in a group (even if only a group of 2). When you are solo you are forced to find a way to communicate with local people, even if only with sign language, pictures, etc. True, you have no close person with whom to share and discuss the experiences, but I think perhaps a solo rider experiences the ride more intensely. Not for everyone, I'm sure, but probably something we should all try at least once. Again, thanks so much for letting us catch a lift with your adventure.
