Taking the Red Pill in Ortonville, Michigan Aug 1 - Aug 3
    Hosted by Skidmarx

    Important note:
This isn’t your standard Rally. It’s a gathering of ADVers that are interested in The Red Pill. It’s a chance for participants and followers of the Geezer and the Red Pill thread to meet face to face and shoot the shit. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, this isn’t for you.

    Similar to this this.
    @ShadyRascal’s campfire thread. http://advrider.com/index.php?threa...ended-up-in-a-shady-place-in-montana.1148272/

We talked about an Eastern Red Pill Campfire last year and nothing really came of it..

Well, Michigan isn’t exactly out east, but it’s a bit closer for the folks that can’t quite swing a cross country ride from this side of the country. In my case, much closer because it’s going to be at my house.

I’ve got plenty of room for camping. A few spots for hammocks, and room for campers/motorhomes if you that’s how you’re doing it. Water and electric for a few campers won’t be a problem.

The primary dates will be Aug 1 - Aug 3.
The main campfire will be on Wed, Aug 2nd.
Hopefully, the mid week campfire will make it easier for people to squeeze it into their schedule.
I’m taking the week off so if you want to come early or leave late, Sat July 29th through Sun Aug 6th will be open for camping. Just don’t expect much more than a cup of coffee and a wave on the days before and after.
This will also allow people to use my place as a base for side trips if they want.

Riding in my area pretty much sucks unless dirt roads are your thing, but if you head north a few hours, it gets much better.
I do have a modest MX track on the back 40(zoom out a little on google maps and you’ll see it) so if you bring a dirt bike, you can ride that.

    Other stuff to do:
Detroit is about an hour south so if you want real adventure, you can go tour the urban ruins like this http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/detroit-tour-planning.910184/page-8

I’m about 10min from Ortonville, which doesn’t have much, but if you head the other direction about the same distance, you’ll hit Oxford which has some good restaurants and bars. The new brewpub should be open by then. If we’re lucky, the beer will be good.

There’s a Liquor store a little over a mile away that also has deli sandwiches and something pizza like that’s made from grease.

As far as amenities go, I’ve got 2½ baths but only one shower. It’ll be available, but it’s in the master bath so it won’t be available all the time. The ½ bath with laundry will be though.
I’ll get a porta-potty to help with the bathroom situation.

The grill will be available whenever.

We have a shop for maintenance if you need it. It’s a farm shop so it’s a mess, but if you happen to need to weld together a new motorcycle frame, odds are we have the junk laying around to make it happen.
You can ship stuff in advance if you need to.

Like Shady’s, this will be an informal event with a $30 fee. That’ll cover two dinners, extra munchie food, water, pop, and beer. I’ll have stuff for breakfast too, but you might have to make it yourself. You’ll also get a campfire and the chance to meet Raspberry and I.

I was going to charge extra for meeting a unicorn, but everyone knows that unicorns don’t exist.

That’s the basic plan. I’m open to suggestions.

    I'll be there.

Not sure if I'll leave Indianapolis on Sunday (I'm in a wedding) and spend 2 days touring the UP (900+ miles in 2 days to make the Rally point evening of the 1st or stretch a bit and come in afternoon of 2nd) or head home and leave bright and early Monday morning for a more direct route.

If anyone is coming from north (Nordo?) or west (all you Rocky Mountain folk) of Indianapolis and would like to link up to ride some of the UP on July 30/Aug 1-2, feel free to get ahold of me and we can jot out a plan. Thinking it'll be better to hit the UP on the way in as I would like to try and see Niagara on my way out. (lofty plans!) We'll see what the weather (and the beer) holds.

    Tentative route:

Anyone that has more time available and wants to tag along for Niagara is more than welcome.

I'm wondering where all those east coast fuckers are who said they couldn't swing the Shady Rally last year because it was too far?! :lol3

This is a pretty good location. Nearly anyone on the east coast is only 650-750 miles away. That's 2 moderate days of riding or a very leisurely 3 days with time to stop and smell the roses. Being you made this mid-week, it should be perfect for most those guys.
