Yes, thanks for starting the thread. Looking forward to some local conversations.
Well, Mossy_Crk and I went to Thumper Thaw in Stecoah, NC. We had one good day of riding before the Rain Apocalypse started. Nonetheless, a good time was had by all and if you haven't checked out Iron Horse, you should. The place is much bigger than I expected; the washrooms are spotless, the showers hot, the grub good and the rates reasonable. I tent camped but I stuck my head inside a bunkhouse and it looked simple and tidy. Lodge rooms and cabins are also available but I didn't have the opportunity to check them out.
We shared the facility with the Georgia Sidecar Club, and if there's one group that can make the Chain Gang look normal, it's sidecar riders.
I heading down to run Parson's then watch the Mini's for a bit tomorrow. Has anyone else been though the gap during MOTD this year?
God, no. How was it? Entertaining, or just sad?
I got to the 129 end of Parson's at about 3:00. It wasn't too busy and I had some pretty big gaps between Minis. The few that I saw were all tricked out. Several had some serious suspension upgrades and weren't afraid to put them to the test. They were carrying some crazy speed but were holding their lines (and lanes) quite nicely. A couple of them had multiple cameras mounted and I'm sure they ended up with some nice shots.
I didn't go by the store as it was already later in the day than I had planned so I just headed back toward town. There were only 2-3 Minis parked at the overlook and the really fast guys were parked at the big area down by the bridge. I kinda wish I had been there for the big parade of cars (only because I had a nice seat well off the road and no where to be).
I saw two classic minis and holy shit those things are small. One was scooting though 129 though and the guy had a grin a mile wide. The other was down by Tallassee.
Workerant has a great pic of their club's rather ironic sign. Maybe she will link it later.
Quoting myself to keep these links in an easy to find place:

ADVCoot, has posted a new ride report over in Day Trippin' about his wanderings down 232, a trip to the crash site of Patsy Cline, and gives his explanation of the difference between curves and twisties.
Wandering Mid-Tennessee; curves, twisties, goats, burros, creeks & Patsy Cline
ADVCoot is right about one thing...232 is more fun to me than the Dragon.
He missed out on the Southernaire at the south end. I love their breakfast.
This is in WNC but it affects ETN dualsporters:
Tatham Gap will be closed indefinitely
Don't forget it's Bike Night at Time Warp this evening!
I've eaten there multiple times. Have ridden to the end of the road there in Danville, took photos of the old railroad bridge to nowhere, fished off the banks below the bridge and wandered around over there before some millionaire built a huge home on the south edge, overlooking the RR bridge and lake. When I read of those "off the beaten path" Mom n Pop cafes, I sometimes "ride to eat". You're right about breakfast there!
I just found out about this from a friend in NY on the Morini list and was looking at the website today. Sounds like a great place and a good place to see some old bikes. Poked around a bit and found Goose gap road and Battle hill, much more fun than Chapman highway!
If anyone is riding Fr126 ? near Holly Flats there is a tree blocking the rd,
I saw a fr ranger and informed him
How big of a tree? Is this something that a couple of us can handle with a hand saw and a rope or is this chainsaw and block and tackle level? Or do you think the FS will be motivated to remove it sooner rather than later?
The ranger said he would get it cleaned up, it was definately a chain saw job, probably 16" dia
With all the rain this year, there's no telling how many tree falls they've had to deal with. I figure we are lucky there haven't been more trails closed this year.
Rick's Rendezvous starts in a couple days! Hope you folks have a great time. I may see you guys out on the roads, but won't be at the rally this go around. How many of the locals are hitting this one?
I'll be there!
