Anyone here have performed a tank conversion from GS to GSA on a 2008 GS ?

I hate the fork angle of the new GSA, I prefer by far the standard GS handling ... And I do not need - or wish - anything that comes with a GSA except the tank.

If you're buying new, the price difference between the GSA and GS is equal to about the cost of the tank if you bought it separately.

Will it fit? For sure.. It's the same bike underneath, as you know, I fitted the GSA tank on my GS and love it! On the weekend I rode from Concord, NH to Toronto (900km) and stopped once for gas just before crossing the border in Cornwall.

Toronto to Des Moines, Ia, 1400km, stopped for gas twice. :thumb

    I know.

But I really do not like the GSA handling. To the point I do not mind paying the same price for a standard GS. The only thing I need is the GSA is the tank. The rest is only useless stainlees steel gadgetry or ridiculously weak fog lights that have solely a cosmetic role with far better alternatives on the aftermarket.

I know that mecanicaly speaking it will most probably fit, but I do worry about compatibility with electronics BMW has been piling up on GS. - "Ready to Break" - seems to be their latest slogan.

Has anyone put the '07 GS Adv tank on an '07 GS? A friend bought the kit from Bob's BMW and the kit did not come with instructions or even all the parts. Then after some rather laborious parts changing...putting the pumps in the tank, etc., it won't fit on the bike with the air snorkel in place. It turns out that the '06 ADV tank (and sucking fuel pump) is different from the '07 ADV tank (and sucking pump). He bought this all for the '07 GS but apparently got '06 parts.
Anybody do this and get thru to completion? With the Bob's kit?

I'm listening too even tough it does not apply to what I want to do. I.e. GS08 to GSA 08 ...

The '07 and '08 are the same.

Search the Hall of Wisdom for the conversion guide. Once you get the tank off you'll see it's pretty easy. I did mine (an '05) in less time than it took me to actually unpack all the parts and make sure I got everything I ordered.

Like GB said, it's the same bike underneath.

Not really, the styling of the 08 tank and it's surrounding shroud are different..

I've converted my own GS to a GSA ... I know 2008 tanks are VERY differrent than previous generation.

Hi there! As you have probably become the target of many questions around the issue... do you know of some successful conversion from GS'05 to GSA'10 tank? the GSA'10 tank I have got has all the internals (pump and sucking pump, plus filler tube -lacks the filler cap, though... and I am afraid I will have to buy that one :cry is this so?). My problem is that I received the tank in parts, totally dismantled.

A couple of things I have noticed are keeping me boggled:

    1. the filler tube does not have any internal lines or internals. Seems much simpler. It just has a rocker that I suppose actuates on a valve to open/shut the left/right vents
    2. the sucking pump is connected to a hose that as far as I have understood is NOT connected to anything: just goes to the opposite lobe (sucking pump on the right; fuel pump on the left). But I don't see the hose reaching far enough into the left lobe (ie won't get as low as the fuel pump itself and I saw it does not get too low either)
I still don't understand how the sucking pump works, so I don't feel reassured by the reach of the hose. Would it still work if the end of the hose is "above water" (ie above the surface when in low gas level)? :huh

    Thanks,

    Carlos
