removable liners are most commonly found because they enable a piece to offer the widest range of comfort. when the waterproof layer is bonded to the outter fabric warm weather venting is alot less effective. the olympia ast jacket is a good example of this. that jacket is very hot in warm weather (even with all the vents) because it's a bonded waterproof material.

you can not compare hiking gear which is bonded because that gear does not see the extreme range biking gear does.

can anyone comment on how the neck area is built?
is it soft against the neck or rub raw like alot of jackets do?

The neck material is a very soft almost spongy material. I don't think you'll have any problem with it irritating your neck.

Some clarification on the commuter suit color choices, please. The website offers dark gray and hi-viz yellow. The photos of the model show a two-toned suit. If one opts for hi-viz yellow, precisely what will be yellow? Is the entire suit yellow? Is the dark gray portion yellow? The lighter gray yellow? I like the idea of hi-viz, but I believe panels of hi-viz would make me happier in the real world of motorcycling. As noted on the site, hi-viz can become pretty disgusting with just a little road grime.
    TIA

Hi Viz will replace the dark gray panels. So Hi Viz shell and light gray ballistics.
You are correct that Hi Viz is a very difficult color to maintain. It will become dirty quite quickly.

Because a little extra material bunched up at your ankles beats bare skin above your boot any day of the week :evil
