Im planning on coming to this area in two weeks, to ride the Skyway, Dragon, and just see a different part of the country. Need advice on weather and places to stay. I will not be camping so hotels, motels ,cabins it is.
I would like to keep it under 100.00 a night, might pay more but I'm pretty tight. I'll be staying at least three nights possibly four.

Any other advice is appreciated, things to look out for, places to see, good food, weather patterns especially, gear suggestions anything else the collective knows would be good.

    Thanks

Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort right at the dragon.
San Ran Motel, Phillips Motel, Two Wheel Inn and Microtel in Robbinsville.
Tuskegee Motel about 20 minutes from dragon or 10 minutes to Robbinsville.
Fontana Village about 15 minutes from the dragon.
Iron Horse Motorcycle Lodge about 25 minutes from the dragon has camping, cabins, and bunkhouse beds. Bunkhouse is pretty cheap (30ish) and often you will be the only person in it.
A little more upper scale would be Tapoco Lodge which is between Robbinsville and the dragon.
There are a couple campgrounds in Tellico Plains on the far end of the skyway that have small cabins.

I try to stay right there at Deals Gap Resort when I can get a room. Only about $60ish for 1 person, but they stay pretty well booked. I would definitely recommend making a reservation versus just showing up and trying to get a room.

If you like vintage bikes (mostly Harley) check out the Wheels Through Time museum in Maggie Valley. Plan on spending 2-3 hours there to really take it in. Very cool place.

Try to ride the Dragon on weekday if possible. If weather is decent it gets very crowded and a bit chaotic on the weekends. Skyway is great whenever. 28 is fantastic almost all the way down to the South Carolina border. Tons of other great roads nearby.. I'm sure others will add in..

Yep.. That's one of the places I was thinking of.. I stayed there a couple nights a few years ago. The little cabins were very basic, but the price is right and as I recall, the folks that ran the place were super friendly.. There are a couple other similar places right off the main drag in Tellico but I have no experience with them.

I found the Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort lacking. Restaurant and store closed at 5pm. No cell phone service or WiFi.

I have stayed at Two Wheel Inn just south of Robbinsville. Nice folks. Even has a little garage to park your bike in at night.

There's a new similar place that just opened a couple blocks down from Two Wheel Inn called 129 Cabins. From pictures I saw, the rooms look pretty good and a small garage with each for your bike. A new fairly decent steakhouse opened a few months ago right next door to Two Wheel Inn as well.

I've stayed at Iron Horse a couple of times (once camping and once in cabin) and I highly recommend it. Clean site, nice people, and they make some nice meals (breakfast and dinner only). Just down the road from Charola and the Dragon.

TN68 has a couple of MC friendly places to stay. Also a VG road to ride. Know that the regular campgrounds near Tellico Plains are considered the primo camping spots in that area and will be reserved out for the fall foliage season. MC riders could team up on campsites already reserved and get in that way. Also could stealth camp the area. Depends on yer shower needs...

My shower needs are daily, or you won't want to be around me. :lol3

Wayne's place has hot showers, clean cabins and good breakfast.
It's far enough off the beaten track that you shouldn't have to fight for a spot, it's nice and quiet.

He tolerates us Morans quite well. But doesn't understand how we drink until 2 am, then get up for coffee at 5:30.

Weather report for next week now looks like 70's during the day, 50ish overnight.. Chance of rain a couple days but probably not a washout on any day.. Subject to change at any minute.

Keep in mind that it will be much cooler going across the top of the Skyway.
If you don't believe me, ask my kid. :lol3

Mid 70s when we left Tellico, 41 on top the mountain.

I watched him behind me for a few miles, lightweight summer gloves.
After seeing him trying to flex, shake the cold out of his hands for a bit I took pity on him.
Pulled over and gave him my heavy gloves that I had in the top box.

My mid weight ones were fine and my bike has handguards so the wind isn't as bad.

I have stayed at the Simple Life campground, just south of the dragon, a few times. It is nice and quiet. Cabins are pretty cheap to rent.
