My two riding partners, Kaye and Gary from OZ, unfortunately, will not be able to make the ride. Anyone who wants to hook up to share motel/camping cost will be most welcomed to get with me. I have a couple of new friends who are planning to ride a lot of the ride with me so all is well :thumb

Still planning on leaving May 20....riding slow and low :ricky

Very sorry to hear that. My plans are for leaving WI on June 1st with crossing the border on the 9th. I will be solo till Dawson City where I plan to hit the Dempster with Heidiho and his merry band of travelers. I will study your itinerary and see if I can intersect and or ride certain parts with you during the 4th through the 15th.

If you don't mind sharing the road with an Italian tractor, I might take you up on that...might have to pavement-detour around some of the gnarlier stuff...:rayofbut she will have a Stelvio skidplate in place of the chin fairing and the fairing lowers removed...

Hey no problem at all....gnarly stuff to me is nicely graded gravel that is dry and has no dust :lol3...the only non-tarmac I'm planning on riding is the Mokee Dugway, Valley of The Gods Road, Gravely Range Road, TOW Highway, Denali Highway, Dalton Highway, and maybe some of the Dempster.

I don't have any really long days....I ride slow enough to put most people in a coma....

As for the tractor comment....my buddy had a 1984 Lemans that was sex on two wheels :thumb

As time gets close we can exchange info and if it works it works. I travel with no schedule, no responsibilities, and usually only check my cell phone once a day :-)

Hope they are well and it's just a bit of life getting in the way of fun. This makes last years run all that more special and is a reminder to do stuff when one can as the planets don't often align especially coming from the other side of the globe. If I didn't have hardened plans of my own with conflicting timelines I'd throw my name in the hat, but I think you'll likely be requiring a resume and at least three non family member references to sort all your would be suitors............:D:deal:freaky

    Cheers

    Hey Tim
Sorry to hear Kaye and Gary can't make the ride
If you don't mind riding with an AT again I'll be leaving the same time frame as you have planned . I'll give you a call to see if we can work out something

    Hand Relief...
When I rode the stock bike my throttle hand was constantly cramping. The hand grip on the 7/8" bars was just too small to be comfortable. You buy tennis rackets with different size grips based on what is right for your hand size...So...
I purchased a pair of "Grab On Grip Covers" for 1.25" - 1.45" O.D. and slipped them on. The cramping disappeared!!!
    IMG_8044.JPG
However, it still felt like I could go bigger, especially with winter gloves on. I then purchased a pair of "Grab On Grip Covers" for 1.45" - 1.65" O.D. and slipped them on over top the first set.
I love these for touring now. You hardly have to do anything other than rest your hand on the throttle and it's great with gloves on.
I know double foam grips over heated grips would not let the heat through, but for anyone with hand issues, a double dose of "Grip On" could be just the ticket. IMG_8043.JPG

My buddy calls my oversize grips toilet rolls!!!

100 % agree with the post above ^^^, as I have been doing this for years, and years. All of my bikes have either Grab-On grip covers, or....Grip Puppies on them.

I was going to send this in a personal e-mail, but then......decided it is info worth sharing with all my riding brothers and sisters, so......sorry SSU, this info is now for everyone, and not just you exclusively.

Bought some new riding socks at Costco the other day. They are on sale right now.....Item # 722464....for a 4 pack of Weatherproof Men's Crew Socks.
These wool-blend socks will keep you warm and comfortable, with arch and ankle support, a comfort toe seam and stay-up cuff.

I bought two of the 4 packs, for a total of 8 pairs of socks, and have been testing them out for the past few days, and am 100 % satisfied...so thought I should pass this info on, for riders that wear socks under their boots :jack

Okay, to the point, 99.314159 % of the inmates here do in fact wear socks under their riding boots, but not everyone wears the right socks, or the best socks for the riding they are undertaking. Some of you...yes...YOU....simply grab a pair of socks from the socks drawer, or the dirty clothes bin, and slip them on, followed by your Adventure Riding Boots :-), and think all is well.

Given that I have named myself "the connoisseur of riding socks" (let's all take a moment to laugh at that one), it is my job...nay...my responsibility...to share this kind of "socking" info with all of you. :imaposer

Last words on this: If you buy them...they will be worn

I've been wearing 100% Merino wool socks for years....the real stuff, not the blend most common these days....I can literally wear a pair for days at a time...they never stink and last for years.

I also wear 100% Merino Wool long sleeve crew neck shirts made by Merino 365 in New Zealand....super quality....can buy them for about $50 each on Amazon (retail for a hundred each).

I ride with LD Comfort riding shorts....super compfy and only need to change them every other day as I pay attention to my personal hygiene.

The Merino wool keeps me cool in hot weather and warm and cold weather....and yes....Merino wool can do both.

None of you know I used to be a ballet dancer....my training paid off today when I tripped over my bike lift.

I graciously fell against my work bench....broke at least two ribs....sucks....my two friends Roger and Patrick were at the house doing some work on their bikes and had a good laugh....bastards :lol3

My friends Darrell and Kate, (he's a combat medic and Kate's a nurse) came by shortly after my fall, saw what happened, and bandaged up my left arm with stuff from his travel first aid kit....big gashes on my tricep and forearm.
....my preciousness is sometimes a detriment as I age my skin gets brittle :lol3

I should have some more cool scars I can tell girls about my time in Angola fighting insurgents.....

Boy, I wake up from a little nap and come to find our circus leader is tangling with the lions...get well soon. I’ll be healing with ya starting Friday. I’m having PLANNED surgery on my hands for carpal tunnel and trigger fingers.
