I just posted this on Stromtrooper.
Did some mods today ( never ending !! ).I built a rack for the back of the tub and and I also built a shelf/holder for a cooler OR a 5 gallon water jug OR a 5 gallon gas jug.I also added 2 more LED lights ( same ones that I have on the sidecar ) to the crash bars of the bike.
The gas jug.
So after the Bigfoot Rally I really started to channel this build towards a outback hack.I want to be able to go off the beaten path and camp for several days ( or up to a week) and be as self supported as I can be.I have the ability to carry a cooler OR gas OR water right now,but I will be adding a carrier for gas and water soon ( I will keep the front mount for the cooler).I just added this ammo box to keep stuff I use alot ( chain lube, chain adjusting tools etc) handy and free up that space for other things.I'm thinking about a 2nd battery ( car type ) and a solar charger for extra power ( for laptop, ipod,or maybe a small electric cooler? etc).Right now I can carry my tent( 8x12 so I can use my nice cot ) my cot, folding chair, sleeping bag, clothes and food all in the tub and under the tonue cover.I'm going on a 5 day dualsport ride in a few weeks and I want to see how self supported I can be ( minus gas ).
Love your build. Almost gives me the itch to build one for my Vstrom and bring my dog along with me....almost that is
One question though.. How do you open that RH pannier? :eek1
I have to take it off,BUT since it's a GIVI just push a button and carry it away like a suit case.
Nice build. All you need to add is a kitchen sink and you are good to go.
It's on order !!!...I am making a electric chain oiler this weekend.I got a 1 week old electric fuel pump ( 5psi ) at work off a truck that needed a 10psi one.I hooked it up to 2 peices of tubing and put one end in a bottle full of ATF.I hit the switch and ATF ( or some other kind of oil,ATF is what I have ) flows down to the chain !!.I will post pics tomorrow night !!.
Ok so here are the pics of the electric chain oiler.I still have to play around with where to mount to end of the hose over the chain, but it works !!!!!!!!!.The can holding the oil is a steel brake fluid can and it's velcro mounted to the box ( I will strap it to the box next weekend ) also I'm putting a wal in the box so I can put things in there without hitting the can.I took it for a ride around the block and hit the switch 1 time for about 2-3 seconds at 35mph and it oiled the whole chain. And YES it is a little messy, but I seem to go thru chains and sprockets on this bike more than any other bike I have had so it's worth it.
So I finally took Brutus out for a 700 mile dirt ride and the car held up GREAT,no loose bolts, broken welds or anything. It was a total of 1,200 miles of which about 700+ were dirt and most of it VERY rough, washboard.Speeds up 65mph on the dirt and it worked GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!.The bike on the other didn't do so well.I developed a elictrical problem on day 4 and had to go home,BUT the car was GREAT !!!!
Three pictures??!! That's it?
Ok,Ok here's the link to all the pics !!.
Nice pictures! I'm sorry to have missed it. Damn baby is running my life and it isn't even born yet. There were some great shots of what appeared to be Mt. Adams in there. Hope you get your electrical gremlins worked out soon.
First half on day 3 was the packwood to Ellensburg route.remember the Bethel ridge road washboard !!
How could I forget that?! I'm glad you had a good time in spite of the electrical problem. At least this time you made it 4 days! That's better than last time.
I just got the 12x12 shed cleaned out and ready for round #2.I got the new bike in and tomorrow ALL the work starts.I will be doing a complete check and service of the electrical system, oil change, new plugs, new stainless steel front brake lines, new front EBC pads and NEW brake fluid front and rear. Also I will be building the mounts for the new saddle bags, new rear AIR shocks AND..The mounts to attach the sidecar.I will start posting pics tomorow and hope to have it on the road in 2 weeks. Here is a pic of the new bike.
Go ahead, Alan. Say it, "I have a disease."
I'll be watching...

Been following this thread for some time. Why the sale of the V-Strom and the change to the GS?
