Steve, I clicked on the link provided and neither the Sign Up! or Learn More button work. Any advice?

Odd. I just checked it, everything worked fine and we had about 100 sign ups yesterday.

Chances are you got a bad page. Navigate to the site, on the home page, press and hold the [CONTROL] key and tap F5 at the same time. This will flush your browser cache for this site and reload the page fresh.

Failing that, did you try the Sign UP/Learn More buttons at the bottom of the main page as well?

It would help greatly if you both could email me your email addresses so I could investigate the problem. This does happen occasionally and each time it has been the result of the email being placed in the Spam folder.

Cool! E-mail address coming your way via PM. And thanks for following up on this!

EDIT: PM is on hold. Can't figure out how to PM on my phone, with this new ADV setup... I"ll take a look tonight on my laptop and hopefully figure it out...

EDIT #2: Back on the laptop and STILL cannot figure out how to PM someone with this new ADV format... Any advice???

This is great. How did I miss this for so long!!!

I've just got one question. How do other members know the sender is "OK", once someone helps him out. If the "Help" message is potentially going to a couple dozen other users in the area, but if I don't see where the OK signal will follow up to stand-down the rescue.

Well that is a problem and has been one forever. It's just human nature to just carry on and not send an all clear. It's also why we provide a conferenced toll-free number to both the sender, and the recipients. The idea being is that the sender and the helpers can get 'who is doing what when', sorted out before hand - eliminating much of the need for an all clear.

Of course, the situation we had yesterday was a little different. The rider was on a remote mountain trail high up in Colorado and unable to get cell access. It looks like the Spot Help request we had yesterday had a good outcome as the rider wasn't found at the location, and, the local riders pitched in and did what they could to help. I'd call it a success all around.

    Background:

Yesterday the AssistanceList received a Spot Help beacon. The beacon was NOT processed by the AssistanceList as the profile name was unknown (their was typo in it!). The rider was high up in the Colorado back country with a stuck bike. It was to serious to let slide so I posted up the help request on a number of Facebook Adv forums appealing for help.

While this was going on I found the issue, and the riders info, on the AssistanceList and manually fixed the Spot typo. The AssistanceList processed the help request. Unfortunately, their were no riders on the same list within a range to help.

The Help request was shared on some local Colorado forums. A group of riders who are members here on advrider.com, loaded up their bikes and went looking for the stuck bike using the GPS coordinates from the Spot Help request. The rider and bike were not found, but evidence of where he was stuck was. They either self extracted, or, managed to get the help they need. I suspect they had a bit of a walk late at night (the first help request came in a 5pm).

I've sent an email to the downed rider but have yet to hear a reply back, he appears to be traveling as he is far from home.

Huge pats on the back to the riders who took time out of their day to go look. It just goes to show what the power a well networked group of people has.

Thanks for the detailed reply. Having never used the system I still don't see how the group would know that an "ok" was sent based on instructions I found on the site. Maybe I'm missing a step or need to see it in action. The site is awesome and just perfect for solo riders, I'm just trying to sort out how it all comes together.

How does the system know things are "ok", without the user including the assistspot@assistancelist.com on their "ok" field in Spot?

This is all I found in the help section:
