    I really like that cockpit and the windshield adjustment mechanism, totally engineered and quality looks.

    Agreed. Also, just noticed a power outlet lower right below the adjuster knob. Nice.

    I really don't care too much what the bike looks like. Its how it rides/performs. If I want pretty, I will buy Italian.

    Pretty small HP increase for going wet. Here's why perhaps... a very small cooling ring around the point of TDC. Jugs are now finned for cooling. Hmmmm...

    I'm with this guy...

    I think its a fine looking motorcycle. Not sure I need all the modes for rain/snow/sleet/hail/concrete/asphalt/cinders/loose-gravel/rocky-road/vanilla/choclate/tin-roof/etc., but I like it overall.

    Seems to be a fair amount of complaints for the radiator guards, etc. Not sure what those folks were expecting. Its now watercooled and has a radiator...so it now needs radiator protection....and it's one extra thing to get broken when you drop it or put it down for a nap in the middle of the creek...I think we have to "deal with it". Just my blathering .02.

    Overall, a great technical leap forward and no doubt its going to be highly reliable and ready to tour.

    Anxious to see the Adventure model pics!

    In one of the news releases, it talks about only cooling the "necessary parts". Its truly an air cooled/oil-cooled/water-cooled engine.

    My initial thought was is this something that would allow you to run in a "limp" mode if you lose coolant due to damage. Say your 100 miles off the trail and drop the bike and bust the radiator...any number of scenarios, obviously.

    Found: Variable valve timing on fwd end of exhaust valve. Also possible VVT on the aft end of the intake cam.
    Found: Counterbalance shaft coaxial to the clutch output shaft which also drives the right side cam chain.

    The placement of the clutch on a shaft counterrotating to the crankshaft will in part lessen the torque induced twist of the engine in the chassis during engine acceleration. A good thing!

    Well, I like it, too.

    The toothed beak is goofy, but I suspect something along the lines of the ADV addition will be available (and sell like mad). The silver panels on th sides make no sense except in full profile, where they match the lines okay. I really like the cockpit, and pretty much like the headlight. The first pic of the muffler looked like it needed to be lanced :huh , but the larger pics look better. It sounds good in the video anyway, but I expect brisk aftermarket sales.

    As to power, not that I need more but somehow 125BHP is a letdown. 28 extra pounds gives one pause, but looking at the way it's built, I bet you won't feel the extra tonnage. I'm happy that they've moved the standard forward in terms of tire sizes. No doubt the rest of the class will follow.

    FWIW, I fully expect one to take up residence in my garage.

    Note engine HP is max at 7700 rpm, yet tach indicates redline at 9000 rpm.

    I think it's going to be a fabulous motor in the RT, but I think it would be really good to have a much lighter, simpler version without windshield control knobs and 85 different types of drive modes and not have every system linked to everything else through the iCloud. Next thing you know they'll have the CAN-BusDDSCASCTPMFBWABSBreathalyzer linked to your phone and when you make a call the engine power will be reduced and your suspension will go full soft with the rear brake being lightly applied to pre-tension it for an impending accident based on you location and surrounding traffic conditions. At some point it just gets to be an academic exercise of one engineering team competing against another. Takes all the fun out of riding sometimes.

    It looks like a GS to me and more power with mimimal weight gain should be considered progress. On the other hand, I'll wait and pick up the next iteration when they improve this model based on a few million miles of testing by you guys. :lol3

    I asked this about the seats, but is there information about compatibility with previous generation parts?

    I'm mostly thinking:
    • Seats
    • Luggage
    • Windscreen

    I'm sure there are a lot of differences but wondering if some of those key items are backward/forward compatible. :ear

    The bike is completely different from stem to stern.
    I'm pretty sure nothing will bolt from the older gen to the new 1250.

    Other than "external" electrical farkles, of course.

    Well, there goes your tire selection with those new sizes. And they'll be pricier.

    They sure did a whole new bike, didn't they? Be interesting to see how it handles compared to previous versions.

    The voice of reason. Personally I'm accustomed to the utilitarian styling of my GS. This aims at being a bit sportier IMO. Neither here nor there as far as I'm concerned. The reality is that I use my GS as a dual sport bike, but wet, loaded with luggage she is well north of 600#. Not exactly the easiest bike to manage when conditions get... hairy. I'd be less inclined to take this one on unpaved surfaces, despite the wet clutch and various other accoutrements.

    I wouldn't think any of them will fit. definitely not the luggage because of the exhaust. The screen is a different shape and the new seat can rise/lower and tilt. The waist dimensions are also slimmer.
