Oh, now I see, it's your picture from your post #4752, I've just cropped it to show the turn signals, well, the iPad did it.
I'm twice as tall I meant :-) BMW: Please give me the grown-up GS version not these small ones for kids :D

Are you referring to me? I'm not poo pooing the concerns over headshake, but am saying that I do not believe that it is as big an issue as everyone is making out. If it is an issue, BMW will sort it. Period.:deal

So where is the grand tour documentary of "some other brand", where all things got smooth all the way OR "that other brand" allowed to show what was wrong with the bikes in the movie?

I remember in contrast to the above, that they asked "someone else" to give them the bikes and they said they were not interested.

Maybe Eric should tell us how much of the extra spares they had in the 4x4 were actually used for the Laos trip.
Since Laos (and the rest of the four trips) is a much simpler task than the LWR and LWD, mostly for the photos and small video reports for marketing, I suspect spares use should be minimal (or none). Maybe he can shed some light if this is true or not.

Someone even threw in the video where two Greeks run at top speed in an African desert (with current 12GS) and one crashes... (where it is clear what HE did wrong, not a bike issue).

In any case it is interesting how every time a GS update comes out, it's like crabs crawling on the rocks when the sun comes out. My take is pretty simple: You don't like something, well good for you, don't use it.

I pointed my fear about the front end of the new model. This (but mostly my financial status) will delay (or cancel?) my purchase. My problem and my problem only - but I'll definitely give them time and the benefit of doubt. For "why", read below.
I have GSes for the last 11+ years (other bikes before and other bikes riden in between). Both the little Dakar and my 12GS were virtually issue free, except minor "consumables". I might have been lucky. I might have been lucky when both my GSes saved my life (multiple times). My Dakar's ABS saved my a** and my wife's on a slippery road where one car was already down a scarp and while we stopped there two more cars almost dropped too. Or when twice my chain came off (both times my fault) and no drama, both times with my wife. Or twice my 12GS's boxer "allowed" me to remain with two feet. Once a car decided to come out of a STOP directly ON me and 40 days later a policer car "happened" to open their door while I was passing and I hit the door 0 degrees direct (NOT the open door that would just bend). Minor scratches on the bike, I didn't even fix. The first car ruined the whole front right (headlight dropped on the street etc.) and the police car had to change the door. Few days ago, I "played" with a friend that has a 480HP 4WD drive Audi. We both almost got out of the road on a slippery turn. His Audi technology saved his a** while my "bad BMW brakes" and maybe ASC saved mine - it saved me from my own stupidity. You see (why) I find it hard to swallow that someone keeps coming critisising USUALLY without personal experience on the specific model, or because he was unlucky with his.

To get back to the point and topic: We don't care what people THINK happened at LWD or LWR or wherever. Here we have a new model. All say it is good. Some say there might be an issue (we don't have any details about). We will see while more people talk about it, let's leave it at that.

BTW, I just read a French mag called "Moto Revue" or something, that they had someone in S. Africa. Translated the scans. Seems they also sing the "all is great, it's the best GS that was already the best of its category" song. No mention about front end issues.

Well, I'm not going to buy a BMW, but for other reasons. I want BMW succeed in their efforts and see them on the road or off... It's a flagship of Adventure motorcycles after all and let it be...

:lol3 The possible replies to this are nearly limitless. :rofl You are correct, of course, in establishing a direct correlation between a high post count and... well, what exactly?

I just looked up the word poo poo :rofl I had previously thought poo poo meant exactly what you said above, but the dictionary says it means to dismiss an idea, so I guess not the proper word choice.

For myself, this new bike represents two things, a better, far more modern boxer motor for the future and a reminder for traditionalists to grab a dohc camhead, while they're still floating about, as it was a very worthy final edition air / oil cooled example, of the original build design format. :thumb

Why what is wrong with my non-DOHC 2007?
First with non-servo brakes and ASC but before the facelift.

(ok those threads are really weird when no real new info is out for the topic)

i don't think anyone is making it out to be a "big issue" but rather one that concerns them, and in other cases, some find no problem with it whatsoever. if some don't feel like paying $20k for the bike in the next few weeks then so be it, the same goes for those who still do.

no one is telling you or anyone else not to purchase the bike upon its release. whatever suits each individual best is all that really matters. :deal

I personally wouldn't listen to them either way, as its a decision that only the purchaser can make. And I have. The bike is being delivered in week 11, and I can't wait:D

Well just a few German products. After all I am sure BMW factories are full of emigrants.
That said, many of us will buy second hand and second hand is not money to BMW.
This was also the case with current model. I am sure that more than half (or more than 2/3rds actually) must have been bought second hand (imported second hand). Nice feeling to know that I paid 18k for a bike that that other pretender in the traffic lights, bought for 8k...

My two BMWs were both bought new, but life changes. We'll see.

BTW, I am not fond of the term you used although I am very well aware it is being used.

I just deleted my stupid post, now you guys can delete yours...

Germany benefits from Europe and we manged our re-unification so we better make Europe work as well.
Of course I smiled when I heard rumors of the Acropolis being re-branded into a BMW show-room but it's too serious to be funny considering what it does to the people, so I'm sorry.

Then they must have sold big time at the motor show. My dealer informed me when I went to the show (on the monday) that deliveries were already at mid april. Perhaps it is dealer related. Well, I am glad to hear that I made the right choise and made an early order.

No need to edit, it is good enough that you realized what you realized.
As for the Acropolis joke... I always appreciate good jokes.
We all (should) know what Acropolis stands for the western civilization.
It has stood there for 2500 years, surviving wars, bombing etc.
I am sure a joke won't shade it worse than the smog.

The bad thing? The smog we have nowadays in Athens is NOT by car pollution. It is because of oil prices and the crisis, many many people reverted to using fireplaces... and burning wood that shouldn't burn (like old furniture). This gave rise to dangerous pollutants in the atmosphere. I am sure THIS helps Germany stabilize Europe.
Or the 2+ daily suicides (which for a 10m country, is a rather large score).
I won't go into deeper details. Bear in mind only that people that still have work (esp. those outside the corrupted civil services), work for 10+ work hours daily. (because we also have the "lazy" tag)

Anyway, this is a BMW R1200GS 2013 thread ain't it? Anybody has news about it?
Because when we don't have news we tend to go off topic.
