    Thanks.
    Who knows then.

Just to point out the guy that has the tire/brake shop is not just *a* shop, but he is quite well known for his expertise, supplies local racing teams etc.

Let me just point out that tires are a MAJOR variable in case of tank slapping.
(that said, I don't know what tires they had when it happened to them, or what tires Kevin used etc.)

This can explain a lot. Advice from racing people is unually not relevant to me, since my driving style and demands for the tire are quite different. For me a tire must be great in the wet on asphalt and have some limited offroad abilities. I've been using michelin tires for a while and am very pleased with them, so after the OEM set (normally the Metzlers) I will try the Michelins.
Tires and the likings are really subjective, but since they are made in/for a wet country that ain't to hot they should do great here with a more relaxed driving style.
This is however not yet based upon my actual experience. Still waiting for my bike. :norton

    I still suggest TR91.
I am sure they'll make them for new GS too.

Is he raving about them being better in the dirt or on pavement?

I just read that Shawn Thomas (one of the lucky guys from Rawhyde that was part of the South Africa launch) has been selected to be part of this tour. He just announced it on Facebook and he just started this new thread.

    :huh

Well this is the best info I could find currently. I never claimed any (to the level of scientific) tire expertise.

Maybe you didn't like my syntax or choice of words. Sorry for not having English as my first language.

I am sure you will do better as it is obvious from your major contributions to this forum. Let us know when you have more data about the tires ok? :deal

The only objective review is the one you do yourself.
Best would be to have the KTM1190, Triumph Explorer and the new 1200GS side by side.
I guess that wouldn't be a manufacturer sponsored event :D

Combination of dirt/gravel roads and "paved" goaty backroads in the Santa Cruz mountains (the term 'paved' is used very loosely to describe some of those roads :rofl)

Honz @ Gateway BMW in St. Louis, MO, is running the Anakee 3's and is happy so far with there performance. He said the hook up decently in the gravel and might but them above the Tourance in that peformance realm.

I've always been very impressed with my Anakee 2's, so if the 3's are an improvement, bring it on:evil

People getting the bike give a "rip". It is one of the OE tires and is a new tire offering so it is pertinent to the discussion.

Is there an agreement on the "best" tire for the new GS for mainly on-road usage?
