Hi all, I know this could have gone into gear, but I was looking for aussie feed back :evil there seem to be a lot of much cheaper go pro look alikes. Not sure yet if I want to commit the big bucks. So the best of the rest? Or a second handy. Like a lot of electrical stuff buying second hand could be a pig in a poke....so the collective wisdom:ear

Not sure about "best" but I have a 3 Six T from Big W. I have a few videos taken with it like this one:

http://youtu.be/SRYP44HTglE ← for the phone users who can't see embedded youtube links.

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/SRYP44HTglE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

The image quality is not that flash, but for $50 you wouldn't complain. I get the impression that most of the cheaper Go-Pro knock-offs are of this ilk.

The 3 Six T comes with a couple of mounts and no memory card. I got a 32Gb micro-SD card from ebay for about $30. There is no easy way to mount it on your motorbike helmet. I have a prototype mount I cobbled together for mine which I have not tested yet.

Oh, and this video is motorbike orientated:

Google "keyring camera", and you will find 720p cameras for around $14, and full 1080p cameras for around $40, and all you need to mount them is a velcro dot. Tiny, reliable, cheap.
If you want to see what quality they produce, google "chuck thrillseeker" and you'll find footage from remote control aircraft, and I gotta say the $14 camera does a damn fine job, and the 1080p one is also neat.

much of it comes down to the size of the sensor. the cheapies will do 1080p but using a few tricks to claim that resolution from what is always a smaller sensor. i've edited in a lot of footage from other types of cameras into ride vids anything from a sub $200 camera isn't going to come close in terms of quality.

but if you aren't playing your files on a large screen and aren't fussy there's nothing wrong with the cheapies.

I got one of those $150 Hi-Def jobs from Jaycar.
The little I've shot with it came out well, and the sound is pretty fair too.
It just doesn't do well on 'wide' shots - you can see the curvature of the earth!

I can say that the Vivitar 785HD is pretty shitty. Poor video quality, shaky mount, bad audio, but it is cheap.

I currently own five - yes, five sports cameras. Two are GoPros and the other three are cheapies. One of these cost around $90 and nearly matches the GoPros in terms of video quality.

HOWEVER, in my experience, only the GoPros produce decent mounts - and a large variety of them. I have mounts all over the bike (and me) and they are fantastic. :happay

The other three cameras are all but useless as a sports camera because they move and vibrate too much. One of them is used in my car and is passable, while the other two sit on my bookcase.

I have a gopro2 and a replay 1080 and have to say that the replay shits am over the gopro in every aspect. I did run it hard mounted and hardwired on my Strom and with a 32 gig card could record all day. Also plenty of other mounts available including camera and ram mounts, very unobtrusive when mounted on the helmet due to it compact size and shape.
They also do a 720 version for very little money which I would buy if I was looking for another one now.
I would think that WiFi capability is the only thing that gopro has over it, but after a brief play with it, I never use it anymore anyway.

K-Mart have one going for $49 or so. Anyone tried it yet? It has an lcd backscreen to view footage and claims HD res, from memory. Might set up a couple for some onboard front/rear moto Condo footage if they're any good.

    Hi guys,

I use SJ400 (90$ + free shipping & with two batteries) from month ago, but I have positive feedback for this cam for the moment. I can show you some clips from this camera. In this case I was not installed the camera very good, but you can see the quality.

Was in Europe last week. Bought a Rollei Action Cam that is controlled by your smart phone. Not as good as a go pro but looks OK. Price around $130 from memory.

Made in China of course and probably available as another brand.
