Hey all, I just picked up my 2012 SMT in white. I put 150 miles on it the first day on back roads home. After 3.5 hours riding I was pleasantly surprised that I wasn't fatigued at all. In fact I hopped on my cycle cross bike and went for a ride. (Had a limited amount of time to run my course of a relay race I did in Bellingham Washington) I can't wait to finish breaking her in to really get on her.
I'll upload a photo as soon as I figure out how to upload from my computer and not a web site.

While I was at the stealership I was admiring the 2013 model. Very nice. It was a little too much for my budget. But one thing I did really like was the decals. So I played around on photoshop for a while. Here is what I came up with. What do you all think.

    Started with these two

Nice, the more orange the faster it will be, so why don't get an orange one right away.

I got a good deal on the white one. They dropped it into my price range and gave me a deal on some gear. I really like the white I just want to spice it up a little with some more orange. It is KTM after all. And we didn't get all orange ones in the states.

I'm adding some orange to the top of the rear side panels and the tank side panels are going to be orange with black scallop type designs on them outlined in white pinstripe. Starting to paint today. Hopefully have some pics up in a couple days.

I'm using automotive paint. I found that Lamborghini Orange is a pretty close match to the rear shock spring color so I went with that. I also thought of getting some orange 3M sticker sheets for dirt bikes for other things but I haven't actually checked on them yet. You can also get them in carbon fiber look alike too.
If you just want to rattle can it I found that Rustoleum REAL ORANGE is an almost exact color to the rear shock spring but don't try to clear coat it with automotive clear, it doesn't work too well.:becca

Yeah - I tested both last week and bought the SMT :) - a 2010, traded a 690 for it. I should have it mid next-week.

    Here are my impressions.

    Cheers

That's a fun comparison. I also have a 690 E and then I added the 990 SMT for some serious road fun. Both are great bikes, with many similarities, and depending on my mood I'll take one or the other. For me their paths rarely cross (offroad vs road) but the riding style is similar motocross/supermoto (lean the bike hard and push on the outside pedal to prevent from sliding and keep the inside leg ready to hit the ground if needed). It's always a great day. :clap

I love the orange version, to me that's a true and easily recognizable KTM (mine is pictured higher up in this thread). If you plan any time in the south of france at summer (as many dutch normally do!) let me know so we can go for a ride. I lived a few years in holland, nice experience...
    Cheers.

    Hey Mikezilla,

What tires are you running on that SMT? I have been running Scorpion syncs on my SM since purchase but they don't make them anymore. Those seem to have a similar tread type to them. How do they handle on an all around basis?
