Not sure how accurate this is, but the proposed route for Dakar 2014 seems to have been published:

Looks like half of it is missing, or else there is going to be some really technical sh!t in there this year... certainly a lot of mountains, forests and desert!

The ASO routedescription quotes longer specials and shorter liaisons. It also quotes multiple marathon stages for the bikes.

Mechanics and looking after the bike should be of importance as a result of multiple marathon stages :clap

Altitude (my guess) is going to be a bigger factor than ever looking at the map. Surely the high altitude salt flats in Bolivia will be showcased.

ASO makes mention of a Bolivian stage being run in a different format, opening possibilities For the future. Hmmm......any guesses? A non timed day maybe, but with mandatory waypoints and a max time allowed (just my guess).

I am surprised to see Peru not included, those opening stages last year looked great. I suppose with the new Inca rally there in Sept...

The new format mention about Bolivia, is being commented that only bikes and quads will go into bolivia, while cars and trucksdirectly form Argentina to Chile.

Regarding entry list......................well not even opened yet, and almost 8 month to go, so anything can happen. (even, and hopefully not, injuries, budget cuts, and so on; but also new teams can formed)

Yep, no Peru is a surprise being it seemed so popular with riders and spectators alike. Bolivia is a badly kept secret but it looks like Bolivia will be bikes and quads only, that is an interesting twist. I welcome the change to longer stages and shorter liaisons. Also, more marathon stages are likely but after that cold concrete floor in 2013, not sure the riders feel the same. :lol3

Maybe we will get the mass start :rofl I can see it now...100 bikes lined up in a bar banging MX style rush to get the holeshot

MX Mum has it right, Sunday may give a few pointers, not so sure about CDP though - will he get a ride :deal or will the one eyed :D glory seekers wake up to see that there are 3 components to success, in bike, team and rider and that maybe the latter is a little more interchangeable than the first 2 :clap

Let's be brutally honest CDP as great a rider as he is, was very fortunate this year - other rider misfortunes, a severe bending of the rules and a team "mate" who gave up a Dakar victory for him:eek1:evil

With a big route split between 2 and 4 wheels and the logistics attached to the main bivouac it may be that the bikes will be travelling light into Bolivia for the marathon stages - stick close to Chavo then :lol3:lol3

I wonder how much that detour cost the Bolivian president :evil:evil

    Hi Chavo! :wave

South Western Bolivia is seriously awesome riding. I would love to ride with you there, but when depends on when my leg is healed. I still cant walk at the moment. :cry

If the government are paying 2 million then its two stages in Bolivia. :clap

Im betting that the Bivouac will be in Uyuni (3,900m) right next to the ginormous Salar de Uyuni....

Only problem with crossing the Salar at that time of year is that its full of water......makes it very dangerous.

In January 7 german tourists got stuck out there for no less than 5 days. They had to send a plane to go and look for them.
