A new GasGas atv team, with Mud Gear tires as his main sponsor.

I heard rumblings some time ago about a possible Husky "B" team as a feeder to the KTM squad, but nothing about Despres joining. It would be interesting and would also be a team and bike built from scratch unless the current 450RR becomes a Husky as KTM unveils their new bike.

I know this wouldn't actually happen, but if Despres rode the 2014 Dakar as a privateer, how would he do. Assuming he didn't wreck or break down, would he still finish in the top 10?

There are a lot of "depends" in the answer. A PAU level privateer, like semi-factory supported or a malles moto privateer?

I got a tip last week that big, big things were happening, but then no detail, so maybe something is bound to shake out soon.

I was thinking semi-factory supported rather than malles moto.

The whole Husky deal makes little sense unless we look at it from the BMW just wanted to dump it point of view. BMW is big enough that taking a (relatively) small loss on Husky would barely put a dent in things. I believe they simply wanted it gone from their portfolio as it was gaining them nothing. Husky was beginning to confuse itself on what it wanted to be, an offroad specialist or a KTM wannabe with a sampling of onroad bikes. There is way too much overlap with KTM's line so a major restructuring is sorely needed if the brand is to continue in the Pierer/KTM fold.

BMW was doing it no justice, maybe Pierer can?

Another from EnduroIsland.it (translated from Italian)

    Husqvarna: another case of "Italian"

Husqvarna towards the end, it now seems clear that you are outlining the worst case possible after the acquisition by the Company Varesina Pierer AG.

We are following with great attention and concern the events of the house thanks to Briandonno VareseNews , not only newspaper industry that has taken to heart the case.

In recent weeks there have been several meetings between the property, the leaders of the company and the unions. Unfortunately, representatives of Pierer Industries AG presented themselves at the negotiating table without a business plan and repeating the request of the cash integration extraordinary only on condition that you accept the cessation of production of motorcycles in Biandronno .

The question we make is: why KTM, via Pierer AG, a company bought by BMW, who continued to lose for three years now, and then close it so suddenly? There is no doubt that the acquisition resulting in the closure company benefits the Austrian house, which in one shot makes her one of the oldest brands in the industry (in 1903 began the production of motorcycles), delete a formidable competitor and absorbs the market share.

We hope that is not just another case of a sell-off of the foreigner of our company. We hope that you are interested entrepreneurs to come forward to propose alternative solutions.

Our dream would be that Giovanni Castiglioni, the son of Claudius, would evaluate the acquisition of industrial assets with resorption of the greater number of laborers, leaving the KTM brand and existing products. The clear goal of this step should be the revival of the Cagiva brand, starting from the jeep.

It would be a great blow to the Austrians

I think this was the key line in the article...

"Some speculate that KTM CEO just wanted Husqvarna out of the way, and using whatever technologies are fit for further development in KTM bikes then letting the brand die was the initial plan, altogether."<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

If this was any other example of corporate business, the method for Husqvarna would be:
    - put the small, mildly competitive brand under corporate roof. Absorb the brand or just keep the brand name for future resale.
    - strip all assets
    - absorb all technologies and patents
    - fire all the non essential workforce
    - if it has any potential value, make it liquid on paper and sell it on

They tried to make it work with Husaberg (just like BMW with Husq.) but it seems to have failed. Husaberg is no more then a livery now.

some time ago there was a lot of talk about how Husaberg could not compete with Husky and this was one of the reasons KTM went to a common engine being High Pressure Die Cast across both brands to be competitive. Buying them, to compete, is what Jack Walsh would have done in the first place.

Maybe KTM CEO just read his book?

    Cheers

    Nope, not yet.

Cyrildespres.com hasn't been updated since the split with KTM was announced, and it has all been speculation since.
