Dude not sure what you're on but they DON'T sell the shit out of them.

Honda built up so many in 2009 they stopped making them for 3 years cos they couldn't sell them!!

Haven't you also noticed the world is turning orange?

The 450r has only been a pile of shite from 2009. The pre 09 architecture was brilliant and one reason the 450x in performance mode is anchored to that architecture.

It just shows when you get the fundamentals right there can be long model runs. The xr600 was the same.

So what the market generally does is bring the 450x up to 2008 crf450r standard.

The limiter seems to be the gearbox - not enough room for larger 5th which was the point made in my original post.

personally, i'm excited to see more manufacturers doing more than just making bikes (ie: shopping for the best riders) & competing for the title; not just to place, but compete for the win. also, yamaha did a wonderful job having the old school crossover promotion with peterhansel; pretty epic.

Talking of 'Desafio Inca' in Peru you guys (and Jen, Sylvia and MXMom too!), I have a 7-days moto tour where you can get up close to the new teams in a bit more of a relaxed scenario than the actual Dakar!

    Shameless, I know! :deal :eek1

KTM did it for several years with both Coma & Despres having separate teams within the overall KTM factory rally team..............seemed to work for them ok judging by the results :deal

so Yamaha build a bike and put money on a rider finally, where was this kind of help for poor Jonah Street when he needed them? Not sure where and what he is doing anymore but hay I would vote for him as a water carrier for CDP :clap.

It seems a massive concession on both sides, Honda on the cash and speedbrain on the bike. For JBB it must have been some offer, his ego must be somewhere up in the clouds at the moment?:D the total package for one rider must be enormous and they couldn't do a deal with Cyril? There is more to this story that we will probably never know.?:evil

:hmmmmm:hmmmmm or have our :D friends just eradicated one of the opposition 7 months before the start :rofl :rofl

Not really sure where the confusion lies. Hasn't KTM essentially run this way, successfully for years? Coma and Despres were KTM riders but had their own dedicated staff, structure, and branding within KTM and the two did not cross over too much during the rally. As I understand, HRC will run in a very similar fashion. All 5 riders will be team mates but both sides will have their dedicated structures, one of which has been, in a sense, contracted to Speedbrain.

Did Honda essentially remove Speedbrain as competitors? Perhaps, but Speedbrain have proven themselves capable of producing a winning bike and a winning structure so I see it as Honda finally admitting to themselves that perhaps it's better to acquire experience rather than trying to accumulate it all internally.

Now I'm sure big money changed hands, so why a deal could not be made with Cyril is unknown as I certainly don't expect that Yamaha produced a better deal. Perhaps the ASO has kicked in a chunk as they realize that their package is better when Cyril is included than without him. I don't know.

One of the long standing rumors is that Cyril will be expected to win wherever he goes and if he doesn't, it highlights deficiencies in the equipment. I have heard from several high sources that HRC was a little gun shy of not being able to give Cyril a winning bike. If any of the new HRC riders don't win it doesn't necessarily point to the bike as the fault. If Cyril doesn't win, it may. It's a plausible theory, but fundamentally, I cannot wrap my head around a team shying away from the best talent available in order to shield a potentially inferior platform.

Must be budget related on HRC's side imho. Honda wants to increase their chances, Barreda brings sponsorship (Monster) and a team that is ready to go and of higher spec then Henk Hellegers outfit. I dont think much more Honda money went Speedbrains way then Barreda's salary and a few bikes.

The Sardegna bike is a CRF, right? The weld on the upper side of the frame rail looks a bit more angular than a production frame. HRC unobtanium?

Paulo: Good folks! I'm returning to Honda! Yesterday was the presentation, but only from July is that officially start in the competition. I count on your support in this new challenge! Hugs (Translated by Bing)

It was Paulo's 2006 and 2007 XR650R's that made me a fan of his. At the time, I recall thinking it was one of the few aside from the KTM's that looked like proper rally bikes and not just a mocked up kit.

That Repsol livery looked the business too.

Great interview. Interesting to hear he is headed to the US for training again so soon. But I have to say, MCN, you couldn't find a more appropriate photo of Sam than the Bel-Ray one?
