Hey there! I posted a while back about maybe getting the route files from you if you were willing to share them with me, but didn't get a response. I figured I'd try one last time. Thanks for your consideration.

This time of year we always take a multi-day ride since my son is on spring break. We were hoping to ride some of the Blue Ridge Trail after we read an earlier ride report. Error cooled graciously shared his files so we planned our trip. We couldnt get the logistics in place, nor did we have time, to ride the entire trail so we looked for a route that would allow us to start and end at the same location and would give us 3 days of riding.

We (ages 18 to 70), and our bikes (200cc to 800cc) met in Lexington and started our ride. We were not sure what to expect since 3-days earlier they got 7-inches of snow in the area we were heading to. Day 1 took us from Lexingon to Covington, Day 2 was Covington to Buchanan, and Day 3 was Buchanan back to Lexington. The ride and scenery was fantastic. We ran across snow here and there but only once did we have to turn around. The snow turned to ice and there was no getting up the mountain, especially for the bikes with dual sport tires. A simple reroute kept us going.

We stayed in hotels and ate out each night and the riding was great. I know how much work it was to put this ride together even after Error Cooled gave us the tracks so I know how much effort he put into the Blue Ridge Trail.

Thanks much, we really appreaciate it.

Many thanks for the files. I was part of 3-day group ride led by Ridewhat (see yesterday's post). Awesome scenery, great camaraderie. Will be doing more of these routes.

Works fine on my old iMac (2007 model)

I received one file called BRT.722.zip when I unzipped it it contained 3 files:

    BRT42011.kml dated April 22, 2011
    TBRT.722.500ptmax.gdb dated July 22, 2011
    TBRT.722.Raw.gdb dated July 22, 2011

I imported the raw file into basecamp and it contained Gas locations, campgrounds, and a lot of tracks (No routes since they are somewhat dependent on the maps they were created and many GPS devices will recalculate them and change them)

NOTE: You need to IMPORT the gdb into BaseCamp and not try to OPEN it with BaseCamp.

Here is an online preview of the route for anyone that wants to desk browse. Explore the different layers - I really like My Topo - great maps.

E.C. specifically asks when he releases the files to each individual that we not spread the files or send them to anyone ourselves, so that he can personally address each person he gives the route info to and ask that they tread lightly and conduct themselves with respect. Otherwise people would be responding to your request for the file. He put a lot of work into this project and I think we all want to respect his wishes.

What is the file that EC is creating for the BRP? Going to be up there this summer and the BRP is one of the places we plan to run.

Error Cooled (EC) created the route and has the GPX files for importing into your GPS. You can PM him with your email and he will send them to you. I'm still waiting on mine, looks like an awesome ride! :lol3
