I start in Pensacola, Florida. In 2016 I rode up to Copper Harbor, Mi on Lake Superior and back in the fall. In the summer of 2017 I rode to the Dust to Dawson and then down to Valdez before having a life flight for emergency heart surgery in Anchorage. I was pointed north towards the Arctic Circle when my plans ended shorter than expected in Glennallen. In 2018 I am planning on doing the Maritime Provinces up to Red Bay, Labrador. I am thinking of the Dempster East (TLH). I hope to join friends KKORO and Oldgrizz for at least part of the trip.

Any thoughts and advice in planning this adventure would be well received.

My fear is that you will blow through from Port au Basques to St Barbe without seeing this province. Happens alot. Miss all the good stuff to get to the "adventure" on a dirt rd.

Everything will take a looong time. The real Newfoundland exists on the coast. I have put a bike in all the communities all around this rock. And then there is France right off our coast.

Put Pensacola to Red Bay, Ladrador in Google maps. One hour difference if I go up 138 on the north shore of Quebec and the TLH vs the south shore through the Maritimes. I think a loop might be cool. I wish I could spend months touring there. But I need to be back in Pensacola by July 4th.

Back to FL by July 4 means you better bring some cold weather gear.

Great Idea but Pensacola is 477 miles west of the Florida auto train station terminal in Sanford. Like NL, FL is a large state (province). But, keep the ideas coming. That helps!

Thanks for the advice. Check in the box. I took my Gerbing heated jacket and gloves to Alaska this past June. As a matter of fact I just bought a 24 inch extension cord for my wiring. I also have heated grips on the bike and barkbusters shield my hands from the wind.

    Well, "everything" ain't gonna happen.
Before my trip I read a lot of ride reports here, not for detailed planning, but to be aware of what's out there. It helped a lot and I paid it forward with my own report. Link my sig line if you're interested.
How much time you have for the trip is going to be a major factor. I had 6 weeks and was on the Island for about 2-1/2 weeks. It was great, but still not enough.

BTW - The Maritime provinces are PEI, NS and NB. NL is not included in the group if you look into the 'official' meaning of the term (at least that's what my research revealed).
And yes, to me it matters. :lol3

I stand corrected. Uninformed Yank. What can I say? I am learning. I enjoy my Canadian friends!

Here is what I found: Newfoundland and Labrador is an Atlantic province. The Maritime provinces have always referred to Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI. Additionally, as Newfoundland only joined Canada in 1949, the term "Maritime provinces" had already been established.

I guess I should have the region as Q, NL and MP. LOL

As you plan, remember the maritimes can be easy to blow through but if you want to see 'everything' you'll take longer than you think in these places.

If I had the time to spend in Newfoundland I'd still ride the maritimes, but would choose to stop/see less (more saddle time) and spend that time saved on the rock.

Some recommendations: Hopewell Rocks, Glooscap Trail including Cape d'Or, Cabot (which you already have listed) and I'd also add in the Chic-Chocks and up around Gaspé.

gpax - since I am looking for a better phone mount I clicked on the link for the Tech mount you posted. The Tech mount is $59 as of today at CG. Sooo I went to fleabay. Amazing the price difference for this same product on fleabay. One seller has it listed for $39 and the seller right below has it listed for $300! So I think I will get the $300 version - it costs more so it must be better, right? :jack

I followed your AK adventures. Glad to see your planning more riding :D
