Closed in 1963. It must have been a cold desolate place in the middle of winter!

We found a couple more on Sunday. Ashdad, on the Ashdad road, north of Calabogie:

And this one in Calabogie, only found because of a detour, who knew it was tucked away on a tiny side street!

School at Donald ON in the Haliburton Highlands - and it's for sale.

Dresda / Emmbeedee, we may have passed you on Sunday. We were also riding N. of Calabogie on our way home from a weekend riding in QC. We crossed at Portage du Fort / Cheneaux and took back roads thru Rosebank, Douglas and Eganville before continuing thu Palmer Rapids. We passed a couple on DS bikes between Cheneaux and Eganville. Just don't remember where.

We had lunch in Eganville, then went down to Foymount, Quadeville,Schutt, Denbigh. Not a lot of bikes out in that wind on Sunday. I had my hi-vis jacket on, I'm hard to miss wearing that!

Also, we weren't on the DRs. We took the BMWs that day so you must have spotted someone else.

Emmbeedee, we rode the same roads only we missed the turn off to Schutt and continued to Palmer Rapids and then Combermere before heading South. Don't know what the bikes were that we passed except to say they were DS ie. Dual Sport. Yup. we got knocked around by gusts every time we'd clear the tree line. If you ever venture over this way (Haliburton Highlands) on one of your ventures we have a bunkie we'd be glad to make available to you.

It wasn't the best of weather but we sure dodged a bullet that weekend.

Thanks for the bunk offer - may just take you up on that sometime.

The white school house was the forerunner of the brick one, now a community centre just a few km's away in Lochlin, ON.

Some more schools we found today, mostly in Quebec.

    Number 1:

On Sand Bay road, south of Shawville.

    Number 2, in Stark's Corners.

Number 3 also in Stark's Corners.

This last one we found in Sand Point Ontario sure looks like a school, but we'll do a bit of research before declaring it one.

The side windows were boarded up.

It's right across the road from this Loyal Orange Lodge, and it doesn't look like it was a church, so the odds are good it could be a school.

Not unlike the Bradshaw School this one is in Blairhampton (ON). I knew a previous owner and it was my understanding that it was a school but the upper windows are leaded clear glass which suggests it was a church. However, his wife had a stained glass studio so it could very well have been a school and the leaded glass added by her. Just to confuse the issue, as I rode away I noticed a bell on a roof top almost opposite this building but that building was twice the size and may have been a replacement for this one. I'll have to go back for the second picture and ask around to learn more.

Lewisham school which is the only survivor in this ghost town. Late 1800's I believe. It's outside of Gravenhurst. 100_3107.jpg

This one is in Zealand, Ontario. Can't really see it well, but you get the idea.

It belongs to the same guy who owns the one we posted in Clarendon Station.

I'll have to remember this thread for next year, my bike is in storage already for winter due to a tire issue... but we have a single room school house and a 4 room school house(huge comparitively) here in town and tons within short riding range.

Just thought I would add some from Nova Scotia. Most of the old schoolhouses have been converted to community halls, but I drive by this one on my way to my in-laws. I'll add as many more as I can as long as the weather holds.

a municipal shop / garage. And next door the replacement is now a community hall:

Here is a old school near Lyndhurst Ontario.

It's converted into Wendy's Country Market. They sell organic and local produce... the good stuff.
We actually buy a lot from them. Well worth a visit.
