I wouldnt advice to get stuck up in the mountains of Carpathians )) even in summer the weather can change quickly - get cold and even snowy...

You surely can go wild camping far in the mountains of Ukrainian Carpathians, we love wild capming in mountains too and its safe.
But it can get really cold at night.. like 0 or minus - 5 etc; so u better get warm sleeping bags ;)

    Hi Jesper,

In order to answer some questions regarding the route I have proposed:
-the highest altitude of the route is 1300 meters
-one can not get snow during summer at this altitude
-it is not a hard enduro route, it is an old commercial road between Muntenia and Transilvania built by the romans, at the Tabla Butii point there are the ruins of a old fortress dated first in year 1211-1255 when it was rebuilt by Teuton Knights and reconstructed in the 16 th century from the orders of a austrian general which also served as a custom point for the trade between Muntenia and Transilvania
-for sure you can find mud portions
-the length of the route is approx 35 km and I believe it can be done in one day, in order not to stay over night(there are a few places where you can get accomodation/bed and breakfast)

I have also sketched a map on Google Earth, a bit inaccurate since I am in a hurry.

I will try to send a pm with it!

    Back to work!

    br,

    Daniel

    Hi jesperd,

could you please post a google map without satelite images. It's quite hard to understand which roads you are planing to use and suggest alternatives. Simple map with roads or link to the actual route in google will help.

BTW, if you don't mind I could join in your ride for a day or two while you will be traveling throu Ukrainian Carpathians.

It would be really great to ride with you. We're planning on entering Ukraine from Poland at the Kroscienko (PL) crossing on Monday, June 4th in the morning.

I will send you a PM with a link to a Google Earth KML file so you can see the route in detail. I will do that tonight or tomorrow.

Great tip, I have added the waypoint. Currently it is a bit off the route, as we're planning on crossing the Balkans towards Dubrovnik, if time allow. Actually almost the same route you did along the Adriatic Sea, just south to north and a detour to Plitvicka National Park. Thanks for sharing that awesome RR!:clap
But if we don't have enough time, we may end up having to skip the Balkans this time and take a more directly route back to Scandinavia, in which case the Bear Cave could be a nice sight to see.

I'm very excited for our journey, this is the kind of think that I've only dreamed about. Thank you for letting me tag along Jesper.

So far we have been able to plan to meet other inmates in their home countries or other countries, which will make the trip only more amazing. It's great how other ADV members are so willing to help us along the way and show us local treasures we otherwise never experience.

exotesthrasouden, great that you want to tag along. Adventures are better when they are shared. And I agree, the replies we've got to this thread shows how committed fellow adv riders are to help each other. Awesome! Can't wait!

    Hello Guys,

No info on the route, since my bike did not started on Friday, have been in the area though but it rained as hell, Friday was nice but Saturday and Sunday we had the shittiest rain ever!

Under these sort of conditions the route can not be done.

Even the guys from 4x4forum use winches on those trails when it is muddy!

Let us hope for sunny days,

unidani, thanks for the update. We'll cross our fingers for better conditions. I guess a couple of days with dry weather can make a lot of difference?

More than that: I just came back from a business trip where we'd been fighting the Bulgarian mountains in a 4x4, and I was devastated that I didn't had my bike with me. I'm jealous!
    :tb

Oh, and while it was raining most of the time, the forecast for the next weeks is bright.

So pleeease, bring us back a ride report and let us dream ...

Having a job that takes you to the Bulgarian mountains in 4x4 make me jealous! Here I am, sitting in the office fixing software bugs :(:.

I'd like to make a RR, I will give it a try, definitely, but I won't do that until we're back. You can follow us on our facebook page www.facebook.com/MCTour2012 until then.

Yes, we should have written a ride report. I have no excuses. Although we did spend a lot of time we could have spend on the report, on researching options for the 2013 trip. 3 weeks, beginning on May 19th into Romania and Ukraine. More backroads and more gravel. We're actually looking for another rider to join us.

Jesper should we start another thread for that though?

I passed on the PMS joke you made, good stuff.
