It looks like he's peddling a unicycle.

You pass a lot more going up hill than down hill.
I remember a section in the Alps where it took me a bunch of corners & short straights to get around a couple of bicycles. Granted I was on a rental, and it may have been a road they knew well, but I was was humbled by them.
And them old guy in their 60's & 70's at the top of the passes over there........
I've had the same experience in the alps.
