Hello DP - Haven't stopped in for quite awhile. I am surprised you bought a new bike! I almost bought one of those too. But my son told me to go smaller yet. I was coming off of an old KTM 950 I've ridden the continent with.

    So I bought this:

My favorite thing to do is buy a new motorcycle :D. Hope you enjoy your XC as much as I enjoy my 690 thumper.

Try black steel toe work boots, Levi's, and a leather Harley Davidson jacket aboard a K1200 S :lol3

He ended up being more like a guardian angel for the day with 2 wheels instead of wings.

Story on that in a bit…

    Rolling..

In theory, I will wear every piece of clothing I packed, use everything.
Jog every morning and try to swim when and where I can.

In reality, I wore...mmmm...maybe 1/4 of what I brought, jogged twice and swam once.

Probably the smartest thing that I packed, again in theory, was my battery tender.
In reality, if your charging system is fried, the battery tender is useless. Kind of.

    The goal?
Vancouver Island with a stop near Ashland to visit some old friends.

Come along for what proved to be a test in both patience and faith in humanity,
a look at some beautiful sunrises and beautiful cars,
making new friends and seeing some old.

The fun started before I even left..
Red arrow is my camera that dumass here put in the top of my tank back without zipping up
and when I lifted the top to get my phone out (which became the most used camera on the trip) it fell on to the floor.
I played the 'what was that sound' game before I played the 'where's my camera game'... :bluduh

Made it to southern OR with no incident.

After some chat and light debate the next morning, my friends convinced to go through Bend, OR instead of slabbing the 5 on my way to Tacoma, where I had planned on stopping for an oil change the following day, before heading over to the Island.

    Here we go...
I'd like to call this next set of pics, 'the calm before the storm' :lol3
I packed an apple in my tank bag and was ready to roll.

Sorry to hear about your charging system. :cry

    For commiseration purposes. :
I have that exact tank bag. one time I flipped it open and my camera, cell phone, spot and gps all hit the ground. All miraculously survived, but had there been witnesses, they would have caught me doing my "I'm a huge dumbass dance". And, they would have wondered why I'm yelling 'you're a F#$ing idiot" at little boxes on the ground.
    :lol3

Looking fwd to the story. :lurk

Dropped my camera in the garage a month ago getting ready to leave for a class reunion. Damn thing landed right on the edge of the lens and the lens wasn't able to extend when I turned it on. Grabbed a hammer and a flat head screwdriver and beat on the lens to bend it back in shape.:lol3 Works fine now. Damn electronics always fall on the hardest surface it seems.

Ya, this cameras lens got stuck too.
The real problem for me with these pocket cameras is dust or dirt getting in/behind the lens as well as the lens cover sticking halfway open.....
I'm pretty rough on equipment as is evident by my camera graveyard.
I have a nice Nikon which I rarely use because I'm afraid of ruining it :lol3

Most of my pics from this trip weren't too great (ie focus issues) because of particles inside.
Almost all of my sunrise sunset photos have a dot.. some of the other pics I got creative and managed to bury the dot in the photo subject, but still affected the overall quality of the pics (2 different cameras).
The joy of spontaneous point and shoot has it's drawbacks..esp on a bike when they get shoved in to a tankbag.

    It's been an expensive lesson.

Is that dot quite big, orange or pinkish in colour? Do you find that the closer the sun is to setting, the lower in the photo the dot is? I think I can help you there! I bet your sunrise pics have the same dot in them too, don't they? :lol3
