FatWife and I are taking our two DR650s to Moab for a three day weekend (leaving Friday AM) and will take a bunch of pictures on the White Rim Trail on Saturday in honor of the new DR thread. :thumb

Don't read near enough stuff on my bike. Anything I can learn... Gotta find a better way to carry luggage than my backpack and duffle bag strapped to the rack (although, to be fair, it works better than it looks.) Gotta find a good set of tires... Any thoughts on the Kenda's? With about 3400 miles on my death wings what prescious little traction I started with is disapearing by the mile... Any other cool stuff I gotta get? Let me know, I'm a spunge (pretty sure that's spelled right, but for some reason I'm getting a different feeling about the word then I ment to.....)
Anyway, I'm all up for the DR thread.

I find that at any moment I am not riding my DR, talking about it incessiantly makes it that much easier to justify spending more money on it!

ditch. i keep seeing this guy on ebay selling big tail racks for the 96+ DR. Happy trail makes a few good side case racks aswell.

    http://www.happy-trail.com/category.aspx?categoryid=20&openid=20

Other folks like to upgrade the suspension. There are all sorts of stuff that you can do with that bike.

I myself have a problem making good turns offroad. I always get the feeling that if i lean like I do on street i'm going to lowside. Since this is on my DR, i feel it's appropriate to ask for help here. :evil

I traded a KDX220R and a few bucks for this 2005 DR with 1800 miles in Feb. It has 3000 miles now, mostly dirt. The previous owner installed narrowed ProTapers on TAG mounts, barkbusters, Racetech front springs, an Eibach spring and Racetech gold valve kit is on the shock, an 18" rear wheel from a DR350, DR250 fender, fork brace, skidplate, mag plate cover, etc.

I did the IMS tank, the FMF Q2, Moose chain rollers, and am having the forks resprung for my 220 lb weight - the .46 springs worked for his 160lbs, but not for me. I'm going with .49 springs from an XR600 (cut to size if need be) and the seals are being replaced (I blew one last weekend on a fast-paced 260 mile 75% offroad day).

It's not the dirtbike my 300EXC, 520 MXC or XR650R was....but it's a damn good bike for exploring about anything the Rockies have to offer. It works pretty well in the dirt too, much better than I expected it to.

    Dom Z,
Thanks for the heads up. Since I'm a hop skip and short ride away from happy trails, I like to get stuff from there when possible. Support the locals, ya' know. Also, every time I go in there I get great service. I always walk out with a smile.... and less money than I walked in with, but, hey, smiles aren't free.
    Anyway, thanks again.

My patented "break-in" procedure is going well ! :clap

What a glorious day to ride - went up into the woods with a fellow ADVRider and had a ball. We're gonna do a ride report showing the amazing riding we have .1 mile from my driveway. The new renthals worked perfectly.

    I got a little muddy.

I think I'm gonna go back up in the woods right now.
