This is some of the fun stuff at sandwash, Shithouse is the hill at the beginning, great open play area. Then at the end is some open ride hill climbs. at about 4:30 watch Jr close as he is coming down the hill. He learned to shut bike off as going downhill using clutch as a brake!

And this is right about where Sgt Marty became airborne last year, on the road below the bluff, I do not think he would take the KLR up this.

I am old and slow, I take pictures of the youngster!
But this is the area I think I am going to put a shout out on next fall for a get together. Very unorganized, you ride your ride, we meet back for a fire and dinners..

I need to get out there Norm. What you want to do is exactly the same as what I want for a Montrose weekend. And now the Peach Valley has a great endurocross track, jump track, in addition to the kiddie track. All free!
Hillclimbs are fun, but I love the flow of riding ditches. Here's some teasers from youtube..

I've been thinking of joining up for one of the events in order to meet people. I have reservations (I prefer to be quiet and blend in when I get a chance to get out of the city, which contrasts with the sense I get from the campfire descriptions) but you don't know until you try. A bigger thing for me would be doing my part to maintain trails and access; if anyone knows of where to pitch in for that I'd appreciate a pointer. And I'd certainly like to meet up in person some day.

Hi Ethan!! We met years ago on an Elephant Ride (2004 maybe?). Where has the time gone.....

I hear you about the lack of group get-togethers (like FMF) that don't get shut down by the FS. It's one of the reasons I got into trials (www.rockymountaintrials.org). Plenty of opportunities to meet/camp/ride/eat/drink with great bunch of like-minded people. Yea, it's trials, it's not ds'ing. But like you said, it's not all about the dirtbikes, right? Everyone is welcome at the events, and there are plenty of people who will let you mess around on a bike before you decide to pull the trigger on purchasing one (which you absolutely will do after riding one). Most of the events take place in the Arkansas River Valley (Hwy 50), so there are plenty of opportunities to take off on day ds rides (Salida, Texas Creek) if you don't want to just watch other people ride all day. I've seen quite a few ds'ers come by the events - - - you should come by and say hello. Come the night before - I'm sure there will be a warm campfire waiting for you (any of you...)

OK Ethan, what's the word? I drove past the pass road on 285 yesterday on my way home to the Montrose are and had to think of the ride of many fails in winters past. No snow at the bottom so I thought, "I wonder if anyone is doing this this year?" Are you?

I'm with you, hombre, we need some more low-key ride weekends. This is the year that I have time set aside for shit like this -- no big projects planned for the entirety of 2018 -- and I'd love to instigate something.

Uli, the ride is on. I'm planning to announce it tonight at the advantage winter dinner at Woody's. Camp Feb. 10, ride Feb. 11. Come join us. It's not about reaching the top: it's about community.
