For $6800... this is tempting for a foul weather commuter.
hope it works out/ id buy one at that price
Looks cool....especially the green one.
That made me laugh....."gas is expensive".
Try coming here with an average of £1.40 a litre.
Got one in NM Camo ?
Where is the doggy window ?
Looks a touch like a ''hard top'' Spider .
$6800? -- with a/c & 3 airbags??
Yeah... that's what piqued my interest too.
Cool, I have been thinking of something to replace my gas hog geo tracker as my foul weather commuter, this would fit the bill quite well.
3 cyl, 1 liter, front drive sounds like it might have the old geo metro/suzuki drive train.
I hope they make a convertible version
It gets 84 miles to the gallon on the highway. That means you can go from Detroit to New York City on a tank of gas or drive from Shreveport LA to Dallas and back then back to Dallas again and still have about 110 miles left before a refill. How is that possible? Keep reading.
It can go 672 miles, or thereabouts, because it has an 8-gallon tank and 8X84=672. Of course, other factors will affect your mileage but you get the point.
It only costs $6,800. Thats about what you would pay for an outboard motor to power a rowboat.
Each Elio comes equipped with a Safety Management System that includes three airbags a reinforced roll-cage frame, Anti-Lock Braking System, and 50% larger crush zones than similar vehicles. Preliminary safety tests on computer models anticipate a 5-Star safety rating.
American Made = American Jobs
It should come as no surprise that Elio will create a number of much-needed jobs for American workers. Were estimating 1,500 jobs at our Shreveport, LA plant beginning in the spring of 2014.
Its a blast to drive. Imagine every little errand, every daily commute being something you look forward to because it means youll be driving your Elio. It looks cool. And face it, you are what you drive, so that will make you one cool person.
Because of its unique design, people will talk. Theyll also stare, smile, give you a thumbs up and who knows what else. And while everyone is smiling at you from the outside, trust us, youll be smiling from within.
This is a very green vehicle and were not just talking about the color. Yes, it gets 84 MPG on the highway, but youll be doing your share of city driving, too. Fear not, with its city rate of 49 MPG, youll be consuming only 1/3 of what the average American vehicle consumes.
Power in Numbers
An inline, 3 cylinder, 1 liter, 70 HP, fuel-injected, SOHC gas-powered, liquid-cooled, automotive engine.
Our Transmission Mission
5-speed manual or automatic. And yes, it has a reverse gear.
Top speed is in excess of 100 MPH, and the 0-60 speed is under 9.6 seconds. So its not exotic sports car fast, but its not slow, either. And while a gas-guzzling muscle car might pass you, no one will pass gas stations like you.
The engine is in the front and it is a front-wheel-drive vehicle. So, with a low center of gravity and weight towards the front, youll get great traction action even in the snow.
You Deserve a Big Brake
We will have 3-wheel disc brakes with the Anti-Lock Braking System on 15″ wheels. So your Elio will not only stop onlookers in their tracks, itll stop you, too quickly and safely.
A Suspension as Independent as You
The first cousin of cool is smooth. So weve built Elio on an independent suspension with unequal length control arms, coil-over-spring and shock in the front and mono-shock with coil-over-spring and shock in the rear. The ground clearance is 5.75″ similar to most of the passenger vehicles you see on the road today.
Heads Up. A Word About Interior Room
Interior measurements are as follows:
Headroom: Driver 39.8 Passenger 36.4 in
Seat width: Driver 20.6 Passenger 25.3 in
Interior Shoulder Width: 26.8 in
Front seat Legroom: 42.7 in
Rear seat Legroom: 33.1 in
Elio has been designed to fit 95% of all men. The tallest person we have had in the Elio is a 68″ former college basketball player, the largest is a 63″ 325 lb man, and the smallest is a 50″ woman (no, we didnt ask the weight!). They all fit and loved it! If you are outside of these sizes, youll just have to hop into an Elio yourself and see how it fits.
How about the outside
Overall Length: 160.5″
Front Wheel Track: 66.8″ (center rim to center rim)
Wheelbase: 110″ (center of front wheels to center of rear wheel)
Overall Height: 54.2″
Listen to the Sound of Silence
The body panels are made of a composite (which is more sound deadening than steel) and attached to a tight, solid body that doesnt have a lot of moving (read squeaky) parts. These two design features help keep outside noise from getting into the cockpit and getting in the way of your favorite tunes playing on our AM/FM radio
When You Need Your Space
The trunk space will be at least 27″ x 14″ x 10″, enough for an airline carry-on bag or a golf bag with the rear seat down (47″+). If youre the working type, tools, blueprints, briefcases, and who knows what else can also be accommodated.
When you own an Elio, youre not just a customer, youre part of a family. So were not going to lure you in with that $6,800 low price, only to mention things like A/C and an AM/FM radio are extra. Theyre not. You get those items plus heater, defrost, the three airbags, power windows and door lock, seat belts, tempered glass, and windshield wiper at no extra cost.
I don't actually believe they can deliver those things meeting any of the advertised specs ($6800, 80mpg, well maybe 107mph).
But we'll see.
I've been tracking these guys for awhile.
They have acquired the old GM plant in LA. But what they mean by acquired I don't know. Do they have a lease pending? Did they pay cash for the place?
They haven't released any information on the engine. The car(trike) will be built in the US, but to keep the price tag at $6800 I suspect the driveline will be from SE Asia. Maybe that is why they aren't saying who's building it? Dunno.
Really, the only thing that makes it seem sketchy is that on their facebook page they keep calling people "believers". I want to buy a better thing to drive in the snow then my DR. I do not want to join a cult.
Here is their response to the question of what happens to our deposit if the car never gets built...
"We understand that being an early adopter is not for everyone and some people will be more comfortable waiting. We have a very high degree of confidence in both the making of this vehicle and the hitting of our targeted price of $6800."
But if it works out, and I hope it does, I'll probably buy one.
Yeah, this is intresting.
I don't want to be negative, but I am skeptical about the 80 + mpg being bandied about like everyone will get that. And the price sounds wonderful, but , Honda can't sell you a 1000cc bike that cheap -airbags and air conditioning.
A lot of it sounds workable, but sending money for a T-shirt and a promised discount on a price that I don't beleive will be the final price ? Lots of variables.
That dash looks familiar.
My 96 geo tracker.
How about the option of a 1.3 liter 'Busa engine
Quite a step up from the KR-175
And I'll bet the VW 1 liter will be a lot more than $6800.00
The prototypes that they are currently taking on tour have the Geo powerplant. IAV is on board with Elio so I would look for a powerplant from them, something like what IAV made for the Smartcar. I want one for days when I do not take the bike to work. I have been on the list with $100 down for a while now. When they get the whole funding situation covered I will upgrade to the $1000 down.
If you really want to know more check out the forums at elio3wheel.com
I will be going to the MPLS tour on the week of May 20th.
Cool, let us know how it goes... I'm pretty set on getting one.
Depending on the final result anyway.
