I had been to the Flinders a few times, did the scenic roads, the public access routes, the station tracks, even did a bit of mustering.

    Photo from a previous trip;

I knew from maps there had to be more,so I gave Greg a call and made plans,
A few months and 1250k later we were there.

Found the main man(the only man) Stoney, paid our money and got the maps.

Set up camp.Call us pussies if you like, we trailored the bikes over, had thought about the job at hand and brought the equipment to do it.

Don't take any notice of the dates on the photo's,Gregs camera had defaulted to its origin date.
A small ride for the rest of the afternoon.

We got to Blinman about 2.30,I usually don't eat a lot for lunch but the lamb burger tasted mighty good.

We followed the railway line back to Beltana, Greg had the bit between his teeth, after the mornings ride, I just cruised it back to Warraweena

We left Warraweena and got to Arkaroola late afternoon, decided on a bit of an explore.Greg is off, caught up with him in about 5 minutes later parked on the side of the road, back wheel bearing had gone.A few phone calls and a bearing will be in Hawker next afternoon.

About 3 times I had been to Arkaroola and something had prevented my doing the Gammon Range track, not this time I'm going solo.Greg thought it the best plan.

    Nice report...:clap

There's a lot of history on that station, copper mining was in full flight in the day and looking at it now you wouldn't believe that the demise of it, beside the drop in copper price, was regular flooding of the mine. There was even a full blown surveyed town right by the creek - some of the remains of infrastructure still stands. Sliding Rock is a special place.

Years ago, before the owners lost it to the bank, we used to stay up there with the old bloke and travel the tracks throughout, but never did the Copper Track back towards Blinman, which used to be the main road to civilisation. We're considering incorporating it into the Flinders Ranges Classic as an option and the Mayor has mentioned it to Stoney for us.

Thanks for taking me back there - great photographs.:clap

Glad you enjoyed the report,it was my first real go at one,a bit of a challenge for me.
The Copper Track was one of the best rides I have done in the Flinders,
not hard just a pleasure to be on the bike.

Warraweena is a top spot. Camped at Halleys Hut there on a couple of occasions in the 4WD but haven't been back on the bike (yet!). Both times I was there, the tracks out to the south were washed out, although the climb up to Mt Gill was open...and what a "touch the sky" type climb it was.
It would be a great loop from Ango up to Beltana, out to Warraweena and back down to Blinman but keys and permission would need to be sought.

Waraweena is a great place. Been almost 12 months since I have been there. The 400 will be heading up for a night or 2 in June I hope. Then onto grindells from there. Never been to blinman from waraweena but will give it a go then off to arkaroola and grindells for a look. Can't believe I've never seen this thread. Great photos

The days ride from Sliding Rock down the Copper Track to Blinman, I think was one of the most enjoyable rides I have ever done.I was fairly hungry by the time we got to Blinman, the lamb burger at the pub topped off a good day.
Making plans for a trip back that way in May.

I grew up just up the road. Blinman meals are unreal. I am yet to take my bike in there. I think ill trek from pirie to waraweena on day 1. Give some dollars to stoney and head off for a camp and a good look around on 2 wheels instead of 4. Then day 2 the copper track to blinman and up to grindells or arkaroola area.never gone from blinman to arkaroola. Always gone from copley because it was closer for us. Bit more camping gear and planning and ill be off.
