We have used Lithiums in a SPOT 2 for some time. They last about 3½-4 24 hour days tracking full time.
Alkaline batteries work fine in warm (over 45 deg.F) weather but seem to last on the order of 40-50 hours of full time tracking.

I have a problem with a gen 2 Spot that I wonder if anyone has encountered. I updated the contact list with an additional phone number and that phone never receives a text when I send an OK message. It still works fine on other phone numbers and e-mails. It seems like it must be a phone problem to me. I Phone 5 I think.

Did you make sure you have the right network in the phone settings for that number?

When you add a number to your recipient list you need to indicate which carrier (Bell/Rogers/Verizon/Virgin etc) so the message will be sent appropriately.

Here's one that has me stumped. My 'findmespot.com' setting doesn't have a daylight savings time option on the timezones. This is making it not sync up time wise with my 'spotwalla' page. Not a big deal but what do you fols do?

What I have read is Spot 3 has better bottons and battery life. Also think there are a few features like automatic tracking. Have a Spot 3 and love it.

SPOT 3 has a USB socket so you can plug it into a power port and not worry about batteries.
We just got back from a 39 day, 10K km ride around the Aussie Outback and never had to worry about batteries. The SPOT 3 batteries would probably have lasted for the ride but why bother when there was external power available.

Sorry about the giant pics. This is the first time I have inserted a pic since ADVRider went to the new system. I think I need to shrink the pic files size next time.

Here's the setup. Note the BIG orange arrow on the windscreen that reminded me to keep to the left:rofl

Here's a closeup of the SPOT 3 cabled to one of our TAPP USB power ports.

Anyone log in to their account recently and see this message?

WTF so spot is basically raising their price by $10 year? Well that may be my last straw to buy inReach at least I could 2 way with it!

EDIT: It seems those jerks are only applying it to OLDER devices (Gen 2 and Gen 1).
Thats it last straw for me.

What a stupid company Spot is. I decided the service was becoming too expensive so I called Spot and told them in plenty of time before my renewal date at the end of November that I was cancelling, and they renewed it anyway with no warning at all.

Time to call my credit card company.

Something happened there - I got billed (VISA credit card transaction) for a renewal, despite NOT renewing last year. I reported it to VISA, they treated it as fraud, issued me a new card. Dunno if someone at the company made a sleazy decision, or they had a bad employee (or whatever)... not good. This was approximately 2 months ago.

Edit - oh dear. Seems like lots of people got an unsolicited renewal charge. BAD business practise.

Be sure to check your SPOT RENEWAL amounts. I just found that they added that extra $14.99 for "Network Maintenance" to my Credit Card. I never agreed to pay any Network Maintenance fee, and refuse to do so - And I consider it fraud. I never gave them Carte Blanche to charge my credit card whatever they want. I called them to cancel the service as I hate that shit, but the guy was very friendly and before I could even question why they feel I need to pay to enhance their network, he issued a refund for the amount, for this year and next year. Guess I'll stick with it for now as I do like their service, but their billing department is run by bunch of cock holstering twat waffles.

Looked into Delorme this year thinking I might change to them, but now I see Garmin owns them and their device includes a whole GPS which I do not need as I already have a good GPS. And Garmin has been no winner in the customer service department for me either. Thought about PLB, but I like the CHECKIN/OUT and TRACKIGN features of the SPOT. Guess they got me for now.
