We pressure washed the engine bay, but were careful to wash around the ECU. the water may have drained into it. :cry

+1. I tried carbs on my 78 Champagne Bus and that experiment only lasted a month before I was scrambling to find my injectors, ECU and brittle wire harness.

Yeah, that ECU should not get wet like that. I'd scrub it with alcohol and a 1/2" paint brush that you cut the bristles down to about 1/2" or shorter. Then weather seal the board with any of the many electronics waterproofing sprays.

OH, and welcome to the wild goose chase that is troubleshooting electronics on an antique Volkswagen. My bus has almost turned my hair grey with some of the shenannigans PO's have done.

Is that for NOS? I'd jump all over that in a minute if it was.

I found an ECU locally, and a wiring harness... and this is giving me all kinds of ideas... build my own harness with wiring for both microsquirt and L-Jet!

Stanimal, I am getting the van to run again...

Since I have a spare ECU and connectors, I am going to build a parallel harness that will retain all my stock wiring + wiring for the new ECU. I'll be able to run both and test and not have to be stranded and have to change cables..

One harness, two ECUs. Flip a switch, and you are on microsquirt!

We are still on track on the microSquirt. I just need to have an alternative means of running this thing. I'm taking off my stock throttle body to have a TPS fitted. I may go down to the my vw source, and get one so I don't have to butch mine.

Was there? Hope my van is ok. Over in Spain.. finishing up a 3.4k km journey through Spain, Portugal, and France. Back state-side this weekend. I will begin ordering parts on Tuesday. Lot's of AdventureWagens here, Westfalias, and other Mercedes Contraptions.. daddy like! I am forced to drive a Seat Exeo 2.0 TDI (Audi A4 Wagon with Seat brandings).

First day back in the US, and I got the van running with the new (old) computer. This is good, as it is 90F outside, 50% humidity. Hopefully I can move this puppy into A/C garage, and get to work! Took about 2 hours to put new spark plugs, re-run the wiring harness, re-terminate new connections that got burned, refurbish the distributor. It took me the longest to refurbish the distributor as it was gunked with burned up plastic from previous points... Now, I need to get a hold of my friend to help me tune it, and get the timing right.

Tomorrow, Collin from IAC is coming over, and we are going to wrap this thing! I ordered last bits and pieces and had them rushed over. I finally decided to spring $149 for a new distributor, since mine had way too much free play, and was not running well... $149 gets you a tight distributor and Pertronix pre-installed. :D

My other distributor will be used for a conversion, once I am ready to move along.
