Tis the season and in my neck of the woods Tioga Pass and Glacier point have closed for the season.
    Via Park Facebook.. Dec 1st
The Tioga and Glacier Point Roads in Yosemite National Park are closed for the season. The series of storm systems that passed through the Yosemite Area over the last several weeks have resulted in snow accumulation throughout the park. These roads close each fall and remain closed throughout the winter months until weather conditions permit reopening in the spring next year.
Yosemite National Park is open year-round with snow removal on all other roads within the park. Highway 120 West, Highway 140, and Highway 41 remain open year-round and provide access to Yosemite Valley. The Hetch Hetchy Road is open for day use throughout the winter months.
All roads within the park are subject to chain control or temporary closures due to hazardous driving conditions. All motorists are required to carry tire chains, even if their car is equipped with four-wheel drive, while driving in the park during the winter months.
For updated 24-hour road and weather conditions for Yosemite National Park, please call 209-372-0200

January 2012... Tioga Pass was opened in the middle of a very dry winter... and I took advantage to drive up for a day.

I rode deer creek via Twain Harte saturday. I had hoped for more traffic through the trails to clean them out but everything was under a few inches of melted and refrozen snow.

Tioga Pass is beautiful, but it is my least favorite of the mountain passes for a motorcycle ride. Too much traffic, too many motor homes, oppressively low speed limits.

Sonora Pass is my favorite, closely followed by Ebbetts, with Carson Pass a distant third.

Yep. I live in Angels Camp, so my favorite loop after the passes open is Angels to Sonora, up over Sonora Pass, down to 395 and north to Monitor Pass, then Ebbetts, back to Angels.

The other direction is great too. If I go east up 4 over Ebbetts, I usually stop in Markleeville for breakfast.

Informal pool about when they'll open? My SWAGs are:

    Ebbetts - 5/20
    Sonora - 5/26
Tioga - who knows, maybe August? :/

You've gotta hit Tioga early in the morning. We camped at the bottom (powerplant road) years ago and then when we went up my 2up loaded bike maxed out at 60-65mph.

All other times we were lucky to get to 30mph getting stuck behind RVs.

Naw, I'll skip it. Done it many times, would rather ride elsewhere.

    Sonora pass is beautiful.

Carson pass is my commute to work. Around Silver Lake the pavement is trashed from the construction they started last season, potholes and mud. Fine for ADV folks.

That's crazy. I drove past the "river eating Hwy 50" spot the other day and it's going to be interesting how they fix that mess!

It looked like they had a really good handle on the fix when we drove through Sunday afternoon. Had the area that had slid away built back up.

Wow, that's amazing. The river was boiling down below, hats off to Caltrans on that one.
